I’m sorry I had to drop the F-bomb, but Plex support is just awful and will not answer my questions. Maybe this will get someone’s attention.
For days, I’ve been trying to learn why my FireStick TVs will only show “My Newscast” and no live TV guide. I’m running a HDHomerRun Duo into my Plex Server, so I can see the guide on my computer and watch live TV there. Displaying that live TV on my WIFI-connected FireSticks, however is a dead end. All they display is My Newcast, with no other selections or menus available. The $4.99 I spent on a month of Plex Pass service was WAY overpriced.
Someone tell me why I can’t find Live TV on my FireTV (through Firestick) or I’m outta here!! The billing department pointed me to this forum. heavy sigh
Have you checked the permissions on the user account?
Settings -> Family and Friends, then either Home users or sharing (where ever the account is located under), then click the pencil icon. Look under My Servers, you should see your server and restrictions. Hopefully it is something simple like that. (LiveTV is under restrictions, and have to select the check mark to activate it).
Thanks for trying to help. I’m not seeing My Servers or permissions on the User Account. In the menu on the left, I just my server name. When I click on that, I get the version number ( 1.13.8.5395) and a bunch of Advanced Settings that have more to do with error logging. There is no place to select permissions or My Servers.
When I click on Home Users, all I see is the server icon box (with a big letter, a crown, and my e-mail address in the box). No other choices like restrictions or anything else.
Can you provide some screenshots? Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not following what you are saying. What you are describing doesn’t sound like the Plex app.
On FireTV, I can see the server (shows up in the upper left-hand corner). In my frustration, I disabled “My Newscast”, so now I have a competely blank screen. No libraries visible on Fire TV devices.
Apparently, I have to add a library (photos, music, etc.) in order for the LiveTV icon to appear on the screen. If I delete the library, all the choices disappear, including Live TV. For those of us who don’t want/need to use other media libraries on our FireTV, this is really bad design. And no thanks to Plex for this little trick being completely absent from any documentation. GEEEZ!!!
