No Media Artwork

Server Version#: 1.28.2.6151
Player Version#: 7.0.13.7804-2fd4cda44-Plex

I’m running the latest Plex release on an RPi400

I’ve been experiencing this issue for several months at this point, over several server updates. I know other people have been having this issue, and I have tried every solution I have come across in web searches to solve the problem, with no results.

Plex will pull all metadata for added content, and will display cover art while getting matches. But it will not display posters or background art for newly added media. It won’t even display any options when trying to manually add art through the edit menu.

Refreshing metadata, fixing matches, updating the server, emptying the plugin cache, none have had an effect.

Any pointers? Am I stuck finding art myself online and attaching ot to every entry from now on?

Sounds like there might be an issue in your network setup, blocking Plex from accessing certain URLs to get the artwork related to your media… do you have any firewalls / piHoles, maybe a bad DNS server? Your server logs might show what specific requests to Plex’ backend fail…

None of that, unfortunately.
It’s the same setup I’ve been running for quite some time now, and never had an issue with posters for media before.
So I’m pretty lost about it.

well… did you check the logs to see what specific issue the poster lookups show?

Okay, it says Unable to save asset “metadata movie poster blahblahblah” :Permission denied

No lookup issues?
Can you verify that the system user under which your PMS is running has write access to that folder?

Well, I set SU, restarted the PMS service and reran matching, metadata refresh, etc. The log still says the same thing.

I’ll reboot into root instead of switching in the terminal, but I dont expect a change.
No problems with lookup, it finds everything fine. It just won’t save the posters.

Finally got it. I had to log in as root and change the permission settings of the Plex directory. For some reason it didnt have complete access to itself.
Why this suddenly started when it was working fine before. I have no idea…

Thanks for the shove in the right direction.
