No more Plex Screensaver Option on Roku Ultra

Last Plex app update on my Roku Ultra was 5 days ago. Since then, I no longer have a PLEX screensaver. Used to be under SETTINGS - EXPERIENCE. Option to edit completely gone. When movies pause, there is no more screensaver floating the movie poster. When music plays, there is no more screensaver floating the album cover. Has anybody else experienced this? Did I do something?

Apparently, new guidelines from Roku made this necessary. There’s something about this in the release notes:

This is a terrible change.

  • If it’s currently required, Plex needs to fix how it’s integrating with the pause feature, because it’s forcing media to entirely exit playback instead of returning to the paused screen on resumption (i.e., it acts like the user backed out of the played media instead of pausing it, which can mark things as watched and lose your place if you’re far enough through them).

  • If it’s not required, Plex needs to roll it back immediately, because having a single screensaver (even if the playback bug is fixed) is demonstrably worse and less desirable for most users than an app-specific screensaver that dynamically updates to display the current content.

  • Regardless, Plex needs to be pushing back hard on this to Roku (as should any other affected apps, which is presumably all of them). It’s an incredibly stupid guideline/rule that degrades the user experience and removes user control over how we want to use our own devices, presumably solely for the sake of being forced to only ever stare at Roku’s own logo during long pauses.
