What’s the deal with the PLEX Screensaver on Roku? Every App I use on Roku has a screensaver, so why did PLEX remove theirs?
Because Roku’s guidelines required us to. I imagine other apps have been given a time frame to be removed from their apps too. (Though I can imagine them letting their big partners like Netflix slide)
you can read the relevant page in their development guide here

Why can’t PLEX for Roku use the Roku Screensaver when I pause play (like other Apps )?
It should. What do you have time set for the Roku screensaver to engage in system settings?
I have the Roku Screensaver set at 10 minutess. PLEX will kick me out of Pause after 10 minutes and then the Roku Main Screensaver (I.e. Clock) engages.
There is also a Roku Screensaver when Pause is pressed, but PLEX for Roku is not using it.
For example, I set the time at 1 minute, loaded the Paramount+ App (same for many other Apps), and the following screensaver is loaded. No reason why PLEX can’t use this as well:
(Note: My couch is not part of the screensaver
)
I’m not sure what this means. Are you getting a paused too long error?
I’ll show the steps afer PLEX App for Roku is loaded:
Select a Movie (or TV Show) → Select Show → Select Episode → Play → Pause
Since the PLEX screensaver (that used the artwork) was removed, after the set screensaver time in Roku, PLEX kicks back to the episode selection screen (Select Episode).
If PLEX would use the Roku Screensaver (like Paramount+ in my previous example), the user (me) would not have to reload the episode as it would still be in Pause.
I do not personally work on Roku app but I am told is not simple to keep media paused when the screensaver kicks in due to how it interacts with server which is why we stop playback when the screensaver timer kicks in.
Interaction with the server is different from other Apps, so that makes sense.
Thank you for looking into this and providing an explanation.
(DM’s to @ljunkie, who appears to work on the Roku App have gone unanswered)
