I am having issues with new episodes not showing up. I’ve renamed these, moved them out, scanned library and moved them back. Renamed, scanned… Moved, renamed, scanned, moved back and scanned… these new episodes don’t show up. Looking in the logs, the Scanner is finding them and ‘adding to scanner’. Not sure which log file to check next. I’ve tried a bunch of naming conventions:
Show/S01/Show.S01E01.mkv
Show/S01/Show.s01.e01.mkv
etc…
Show/Season 01/Show.s01e01.mkv
Show/Season 1/Show S01E01.mkv
etc…
For shows that have ‘The’ in front, I’ve tried with and without ‘The’. For complex names I’ve verified that I match exactly what TVDB has. And this is only happening to new TV episodes…
Running on Ubuntu 16.04 and have the latest updates (Plex and Ubuntu).
Preparation:
Go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie

Always look up the show in TheTVDB and use their title.
(exception: if there are several shows of the same title, append the release year of the first episode in parentheses to the title)

You are missing a crucial step in this procedure: Plex Dance
It works only when all steps in the right order are performed.
A TV Show Library/
…TV Show Name/
…Season 01/ <— required folder, required naming
…TV Show Name - S01E01.xxx
TV Show Name - must be exactly as shown at TVDB including the placement of ‘The’, but only in the case that you want it to work reliably. Otherwise do whatever you want with ‘The’ and hope for the best.
FileBot (link in my signature) can handle that for you automatically or manually in seconds.
What FileBot can’t do is remove possible embedded metadata in the Title Field of MP4/M4V files - in case you ever want to use them. Plex will read this info and prefer it over a perfect file name/structure (you don’t have any of those yet), but you can combat that situation by moving Local Media Assets to the bottom of every agent list you can find. All tabs in TV Show and Movies here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200241558-Agents
Just drag LMA to the bottom of the list and drop it. If you do have embedded metadata this will cure the issue, if you don’t it won’t matter. LMA will do what it has to from the bottom.
Renaming/restructuring is best performed OUTSIDE the library and you’ll need to write a new bundle for the show so The Plex Dance® was invented:
