Plex is not seeing a TV Show, what am I doing wrong?

I believe I have tried everything, but I am sure I missed something along the way.

I have other TV Shows that appear without issue (Frisky Dingo, A Casual Vacancy, etc)

The naming convention I am using is: PawPatrol_s01e06.mkv
Though I did update it to: Paw Patrol - S01E01 - Pups Save the Sea Turtles

I believe my folder structure is correct as it matches shows that are working

I have attempted the Plex Dance, and followed along with a few other topics that had similar issues:

For clarity, this is the disc we purchased so it is not an actual Season 1 DVD, but a collection. Is this my problem, and if so how do I fix it? It does not appear on TVDB.

Any help or suggestions would be welcome and appreciated.

Thank you!

Mine finds it, I left off the episode naming but that shouldn’t throw it off:

Hi nokdim,

Is your disc the actual Season 1 disc with all the episodes?

My disc is a selection of 10 episodes, but not the complete season. I’m afraid this is my issue.

Is there a way to force plex to accept my Metadata?

A better solution would be to give the episodes that you do have the correct aired episode number according to thetvdb. This way as you do get the other episodes, they can be added to your library without destroying what you already have.

@TheMountainThatRoars I just used a dummy file so it was actually some other show but I just renamed it.

As long as you use TheTVDB agent and match what they have yours will match as well.
You can also look at the specials and name yours S00EXX as Season 00 are the specials.

@sGarver The only problem there is the episodes on my disc are two per file, so I can only name one. Would that throw Plex off?

@nokdim I gave it a shot

But Plex still can’t “see” it. (This is after a library scan)

I appreciate the help. I’ll take any other suggestions, otherwise I’ll keep plugging away…or just go buy the full season and save myself the aggravation. :smiley:

IF they are sequential (ie. - ep 3 and ep 4) then yes, “Paw Patrol - s01e03e04 - Pup Pup Boogie & Pups in a Fog.mkv” If they are not sequential, then I would split the files into individual episodes (a pain yes, but in the end you will be glad).

And just naming them as specials (00) wont work. Notice that the Specials section already has entries for eps 1 thru 8 (almost).

@sGarver Welp, I renamed all the files

I performed the Plex Dance again, and Plex still refuses to see the files.

I really appreciate all the suggestions. If you have any more, I am willing to try them.

Correct me if I’m wrong but shouldn’t the episodes be name like
Paw Patrol - s01e01-e02 - Something, something, something.mkv
Paw Patrol - s01e03-e04 - Something, something, something.mkv
etc…
Honestly, I would add the year though… You will thank me years to come when Animal Planet comes out with a new animal cop show called Paw Patrol.
Paw Patrol (2013)
Season 01
-----Paw Patrol (2013) - s01e01-e02 - Something, something, something.mkv

Also note… Your picture from your 1st post shows the year to be 2014 but Paw Patrol came out August 2013.
I think this is the sole reason your show is not recognized in Plex.

Back to the basics:

  1. Since theTVDB does not use a year on the show name, do not use a year in naming the show folder or file names.

  2. Change your view in PMS from “Folder” to “TV Shows”

  3. Verify that your Library is pointing to your “TV Shows” folder NOT above or below.
    EXAMPLE::

  4. Run “Scan Library Files”.

True… The basics… Yes, you are right. TheTVDb does not use a year. And in this case, no year is FAR better then an incorrect year.
BUT for me adding the year has helped me out a great deal. In fact, I always add the year. No matching problems at all. To each his own though.

@sGarver IT WORKED!

I cannot thank you enough for your help. But I will continue to do so anyway. I really appreciate it!

That is now outdated information. The series scanner was changed a while ago to always prefer the latest version of a show, if there are several shows by the same title.

It is now no longer “bad” to have the (year) always in the folder name.

Thank you master (actually said with respect, not sarcasm). I will alter my support replies going forward.

LOL I can’t agree more. @JuiceWSA exist to keep everyone in line with naming conventions. (and he has helped this community immensely.)

@TheMountainThatRoars The one caveat with the s01e03e04 method is that after you watch episode 03 (which actually plays the whole file of e03 and e04), PLEX does not mark both episodes as watched and will want to still play “episode 04” (which is actually the whole file of e03e04). Thus it will start to play at the beginning of the file, meaning episode 03 again. :frowning: This is a separate issue that has been discussed and fought over in the forums for a while.
