No on screen display when paused using 4K FireTV stick

Plex server version 1.24.5.5173 running on a Synology NAS
4K FireTV stick running plex client 8.25.1.28703, FireTV running FireOS 6.2.8.1

When I pause anything playing the image stops (as you would expect) but there is no on screen display showing any of the usual information you would expect and that I get with Plex running on a AndroidTV box.
I’ve tried various different settings but I cant see anything that might affect this… I’m also pretty sure it used to work so I wonder if a recent FireOS or app update has upset something?
I’ve tried restarting FireTV and also the Plex server with no change.
Any thoughts?

Pausing playback no longer brings up the ion screen display by default. If you want to see the controls, press up on the remote.
