From the support articles it seems like it should be possible to download from the Plex server from mac. However I see no such option in the context menus. I am a Plex Pass Subscriber and I can download to other devices like my phone. I am not running the server but I am a member of the home of the plex user that is running the server and they have plex pass too. Again, I’m able to download fine to Windows and my Phone. Just there is no option on my mac.
It sounds like you’re clicking on the Sync button which doesn’t do what you want in the web interface. Instead, click on the “More” button (looks like three dots stacked on top of each other) in the upper right corner of the screen. About 2/3 of the way down the list is the “Download File” option. (this is on a Mac, in the web interface, when looking at the details screen for any given item). That’s what works for me anyway.
Oh…and one other thing. If you are trying to download from somebody else’s server that you have access to, I’m pretty sure you can only download files if they have specifically allowed your account to do so.
This is what I see unfortunately. Just the sync button. I do have the ability to sync/download from my phone and Plex for Windows which is strange I thought. If it was a permission issue.
Think I found the issue. You can only sync when given permission, but to download you have to be the server owner. With the server owner account I can download. Strange.
Do you know if there is anyway to Sync to MacOS like Android/Windows? Their MacOS client doesn’t seem to have the option but their support docs say it should be possible.
Ah…ok. I know that in the settings for my managed users I have an option to enable or disable “sync and download” but I didn’t realize that the download part only applied to the server owner.
And as far as syncing with a Mac…I have no idea. I don’t use the sync feature very often and when I have it’s only been with my or my wife’s iPad.
