Hi all,
up until approximately 2 weeks ago, I was able to watch all of my movies and TV series streamed from my Plex server on my Synology NAS directly to the Samsung 55" Q90R (2019) TV running the Plex app.
Now, all of a sudden, either nothing plays at all or, in some cases, the Audi plays but there is either no picture at all of a pixelated picture. Also, the app says for a long time that it is buffering.
Nothing has changed to the home network, the NAS or the Plex server version on the NAS. I can successfully watch everything via the Plex app on my iPhone and my Mac…just not the TV anymore.
This is extremely annoying! Has anyone else experienced this?
By the way…just so you know, it definitely is an interaction with the app on the Samsung TV. If, instead, I use the Plex app on my Apple TV, then everything plays as it should.
Hi,
the only thing that has changed at all was the update to the Plex app on the TV. NOTHING has changed on the server at all. I know this for a fact.
Also, I just tried another movie file…this time one that I encoded as a multi-track MKV. In this case, I experience the same problem!
I have attached the latest logs for you and also the XML for that file. Plex Media Server Logs_2020-08-26_09-14-10.zip (7.5 MB) La Cahe Aux Folles - Plex XML.txt (14.7 KB)
So…it seems that the two tools I have for ripping and encoding do it differently. If I rip with one tool to MP4, these are playable; however, the quality from that tool is rubbish
If I rip from the better tool, the quality is much better; however, since the last update to the Samsung Plex app, they do not play (they did before!).
I am now looking at various alternatives… the good tool with H.265 seems to look good.
Still doesn’t explain why my MP4s worked before.
In the end I settled for MP4, with H.264 and even with old SD (4:3) TV shows, they look quite reasonable on the Samsung TV. Only downside is that the files are now a lot larger but that’s what the NAS is for
Hi, I have absoulutely the same problem, as you described, event the same TV and NAS. I have seen Fast and Furious series in February. Some movies in H.264, some in MPEG4. Today, I can see just the H.264, all others are just buffering.
My hardware the same as you described:

Hi. Sorry to hear that but also glad that I am not the only one. Unfortunately the support from Plex didn’t seem to believe me - which is extremely frustrating.
In the end, to get it working again, and because I want the best quality possible for my ripped DVDs and Blu-rays, I had to re-rip EVERYTHING again, but this time as MP4 with H.264! It took me weeks
Now all is fine; however, the files are dramatically larger than before so I even had to replace two drives in my NAS with larger ones.
Sorry I can’t provide you with any answers though.
