Samsung App updated and now buffers every few minutes during play

Server Version#: 1.19.5.3112
Player Version#: Client - 5.1.2
Platform - 5.5

My Samsung TV Plex App updated the other day, and now whenever I play a movie on the system, it buffers every few minutes making it unwatchable. I had forgotten about the update, so was trying everything to get it running, and then I remembered I still had my Roku device which I could plug into the TV. Plugged in the Roku, same exact internet connectivity as the TV (wired, not wireless, plugged into the same hub), no buffering. I literally can play a movie on the Roku app for 20 minutes, no problem, pause the playback, switch back to the TV app, resume the playback, and it buffers every few minutes. It is without question a problem with the update to the Samsung TV app. I’m serving the files from a NAS drive on my local network, which is also plugged into the same network. Been running Plex for years, never seen buffering before.

I am experiencing this as well, ever since Google’s service outages last week. I thought it was related since I use GDrive via Rclone as a datasource.
It has been working mostly flawlessly until then.

I’ve watched the logs as buffering occurs and cannot see any signs server side.
When I enabled client log uploading, there is nothing except for the occasional buffering progress, but this does not appear every time it buffers.
Sometimes it is every few minutes, other times it is only a few times per episode.
Moves have been mostly unaffected.
TV is hardwired and my router is showing nominal bandwidth usage.

Yes, the problem came with the new Samsung update. Buffers and can’t even use subtitles, buffers 5-30minutes randomly. Got it all on my samsung tvs.

I have the same thing but worse. Videos won‘t start on Samsung TV just buffer. The roku, ios and osx clients all work normally. Please fix!

Same Problem, went through everything with a fine tooth comb. Only place plex has a problem is my brand new (11/7/20) Samsung TV. All other clients, including an LG TV don’t have this issue.

I just opened a new thread about this buffer issue. After troubleshooting over setting PMS on different OS and hardware, I don’t think it’s just Samsung TVs but possibly any hardware streaming device such as Chromecast, Rokus, Android TV, Nvidia TV Shield Pro, etc. I’ve been pulling my hair out and concluded from my investigation that it has to do with hardware devices, certain media files, and PMS. I don’t have this issue over my mobile phone or web browser. I can play these files directly off the SmartTV usb without issue.

I have been experiencing this same issue on my Samsung TV Plex app for the past 3 years. However I am able to watch the videos on same TV playing them directly from my Qnap server with Great picture and sound quality. Therefore I feel it must be a Plex player issue. All other videos 1080P and lower play fine through my Plex app. so I have just got use to streaming them through the Nas connection on my Samsung Qled TV. Hope this helps. I also have no problem playing them in my RV using a Samsung 4k DVD player with USB connection. Same files copied onto a 5TB portable HD.

Try playing them through your TV by using the source menu, locate your Plex server and you should have no problem.
