I had this problem for some time. Ultimately, by experimenting, I found that if I do not configure to play any video and/or trailer before the movie starts, everything is OK.
So I went to Extras in Configuration and unticked any trailer to be played before the movie starts and removed the link I had given to a personal video to play before the movie starts.
With this, movies are playing okay.
I am posting this for just information.
it would help to know which Plex player you are using and which version number of server. We are aware of an issue with prerolls not playing, but I was not aware of it causing a file to not play
Thank you for your response. The Version I am using is Version 4.57.4. And the player I think is an old player and I am not using the newly updated TV mode player. I have ticked a trailer of any movie in my collection and entered the pat to my personal videos both to play before the main movie to start. Trailer is playing alright, the personal video is playing alright but in 3 out of 5 times, the main movie is playing but I could not see the picture but only audio is coming. Once I removed these enhancements in configuration, the movie I want to play is coming okay without any aberrations.
4.57.4 is the version of the web interface, not the version of Plex Media Server.
Look in your list of Authorized Devices. It will tell you the server version.
Example:
There are three desktop players: Plex Media Player, Plex for Windows/Mac, and Plex HTPC.
It is important to know which one you are using and which version.
