The development team would like to know if this was a recent regression and when the problem started. Are you able to say when the issue started and if it was after a specific version of Plex Media Server ?
I have tried Live TV on Plex Web with the following HD channels and they streamed ok - audio and video
101 BBC1 HD
102 BBC2 HD
103 ITV1 HD
104 Channel 4 HD
105 Channel 5 HD
But in my tests, there were no extra audio streams for descriptive audio
With regards to recordings, if the recording is started a few minutes before and the streams are different before the actual program starts then this may cause an issue.
Does the problem arise if recordings are actually started after the program starts ?
As mentioned earlier, the developement team would like to know if this was a recent regression - so any info on when the issue started and with what version - that would be helpful. Have the way the broadcasts are made changed recently?
The only previously known issues with HD channels in the UK were for Plex Web live TV and on broadcasts with descriptive audio streams where tuning hangs if the plex.tv account setting for audio selection is manual and not automatic
That is a digresison but it was the only potential problem area with HD channels - so hence need to establish if the issue is recent / a regression - or a change to how the broadcasts are made
@coolhand91 It seems that the UK issue is being researched a bit and @sa2000 has given some data and had conversations with dev, but for my US ABC problem, Iāve not heard anything, so Iām unfortunately back to holding my breath that things will somehow get fixed, but itās been broken for a long, long time. Iāve offered to provide whatever debug info would be helpful, but havenāt received any interest in that offer, so Iām not sure what to do at this point, other than continue to be depressed that I canāt use Plex as a DVR for ABC. I extend my debug offer again, as Iām getting the issue directly with the Plex Tuner and my HDHomeRuns.
I am having similar situation with the audio stream. Plex is on Linux and I have a Hauppauge WinTV-QuadHD-ATSC. Itās a french language station over the air from Montreal. Here are my observations if it aids any.
When I start live tv on a channel Plex may show up to two audio streams, an AC3 Stereo or AC3 5.1. The stereo is a Closed Captionned stream.
I then stop the live stream to start it again on the same channel I may see only one stream or even no stream. It doesnāt consistently reproduce but often enough.
On occasion the streams are not named, will state āUnknown (AC3 Stereo)ā instead of āMiddle French Descriptive (AC3 Stereo)ā
I donāt know why the Closed Captioned stream is the default, but I believe it has something to do with the AUDIO & SUBTITLE SETTINGS in my accountās profile, I still need to figure that out.
But I did show that these HD UK Channels tune ok when I tested on my HD Homerun Duo
Is the problem specific to DVRs that are managed by and tuned by the Plex Tuner Service ? eg the Hauppauge DVRs, the old HD Homerun Dual DVR ?
If the DVR is managed by Plex Tuner Service when not using tvheadend and tvhproxy, could i please have debug server logs covering action of scan channels and then tuning the HD channels to show the issue
The Plex Tuner Service frequencies for the UK transmitters is not accurate due to the ongoing changes for 5G but the UK Full Frequencies transponder file does cover all 64 sets of frequencies - so if you test please do it with that selection during setup and channel scan
Let me know Zip code / Lineup Name / Channel Name / Channel Number
Get screenshot of your plex.tv account language audio / subtitles selection setting: Account Settings ā Settings ā AUDIO & SUBTITLE SETTINGS
Screenshot
Then click Edit and scroll down and capture all fields in a screenshot
When you are ready to reproduce the problem, please add the following server settings
Regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
Right Click on Plex Media Server and select
New ā DWORD (32-bit) Value
to create the following 4 settings
TranscoderPersistSessionDirs Set the value to 1 TranscoderInputTracing Set the value to 1 TranscoderPruneBuffer Set the value to 0 TranscoderLivePruneBuffer Set the value to 0
These will add DVR channel stream capture plus will ensure that the temp files used for the streaming by the transcoder are not purged
The files will be in the transcoder temp directory which by default would be C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Cache\Transcode\Sessions
When you reproduce the problem, note down the channel number, channel name, time of start of live tv streaming for that channel and time when the issue arose. Add screenshot of when the issue arises and note the time when it happened
Then get the server logs and also copy out all the transcoder temp directory files under the Transcode\Sessions directory and zip them and upload to dropbox or google drive and share a link
At end of test - delete the 4 registry edit settings (or invert the values changing 1 to 0 and 0 to 1 to disable)
Yes, the problem of not finding DVB-T2 (HD) channels during a scan is specific to the Plex Tuner Service.
The issue of blank picture/no sound is specific to using tvheadend/tvhproxy and NOT native tuners in Plex, and can be worked around via the fix I posted earlier in the thread.
I can provide any logs you want but note the Plex Tuner Service does NOT find the HD channels with my card, which is an TBS 6985 Quad DVB-T2 tuner card. This is why I have to use tvheadend.
Yes I have tried full scans and also logged into the Plex docker, and configured the correct frequency, QAM etc in the .ini file for the DVB-T2 Mux but still it fails to find the HD channels. As per my earlier post I believe this is an issue with a PLP setting that Plex needs to do.
Thanks - I will approach user @NDInnovations to get more info on what is needed for the Plex Tuner Service
With regards to the issue you raised with the tvheadend configuration - did this issue start after a certain version of Plex Media Server where there was a regression ?
No regression I am aware of, the issue has always been there since I started using the LiveTV & DVR feature in Plex and I just put up with it until I found out the workaround.
Thanks, if I can assist with any testing please let me know but I realise this is not an officially supported card.
and please make sure you have included the details of the issue as outlined in my earlier post: lineup / zip / channel number / channel name / time of the tune and time of the issue and what the issue was
@sa2000 I was afraid of that, sorry, I have updated the permissions on the link.
Description of the problem and what was performed are in the description.txt file at the link.
It is all related to this issue where there a channel broadcasting two audio streams, french AC5.1, descriptive french AC Stereo, and is on occasion a single audio track, no audio, or both tracks
Good set of diagnostics. I will refer this initially to the server development team
So in this case where channel 9.1 has 2 audio streams - french and descriptive audio (visually impaired commentary) the outcome is not consistent and sometimes resulting in no audio, or the descriptive commentary or sometimes correctly giving the French audio. Is that the case ? and also sometimes you are able to switch audio streams and other teams you are not - is this correct?
Is the issue the same on all Plex client apps ? Have you tried other than Plex Web to see if there is a difference in outcomes?
I have used the Plex Android app to cast to Chromecast and was unable to change the audio track from the app. However I donāt believe that the error is at play time given I have attempted to use VLC on the same video file and it was also unable to find a track where the Plex Android app or Plex Web were unable to see additional audio tracks.
I am having a similar problem, but I can narrow it down a bit. I am running HDHomeRun Flex 4k tuner with the ability to view the ATSC 3.0/Next Gen channels (107.1, etc.) as well as all the rest. I can watch the nextGen channels without issue using HDHomerun App, but in Plex, I get no sound on only those channels, no matter what device I watch on. The Plex server is located on an invidia shield pro. Any advice on getting sound on those channels?
