No Profiles for Xbox Series X causing transcoding

When trying to play 4K HEVC files I get errors in my Debug Log saying there is no profile matching ‘Xbox Series X’ which causes a transcode to a 1080p x264 stream.

Why is there no profile for this device? Is it supported or not? It is capable of direct playing these files but the lack of a profile is causing this. I would like a Plex employee to please comment here.

The latest Plex app for the XBox no longer needs the profiles that come with PMS, so that error is harmless.

The app should support 4k hevc, but only if the entire file can be played as-is. If the audio isn’t supported or subtitles need to be burned in, then the video will transcode as h264. If it’s dropping to 1080p, there maybe a bitrate restriction somewhere too.

In the XBox app, there is an option to send logging data to your server. Enabled that, then recreate the playback. Grab the server logs and post it here.
