NO Stream from local IP network when WAN is down

Server Version#: 1.46.1.3056-ab91bdc0
Player Version#: 8.5 (2986)

Server is working perfectly fine !
This is Apple TV client, v8.5 (2986) issue

AppleTV and Plex server is connected to the same LAN
The issue is when WAN is down.
After this last update of Plex client for AppleTV, I can access the libraries and icons etc -
However - as soon as streaming start, it just spins and no stream decoded.
Previous versions has been able to stream from my local Plex server without any issues when WAN is down.
With WAN re-enabled and internet connection restored, Plex client stream again.
With WAN down, no internet, streaming stop.

iOS client is capable of streaming

Accessing Plex Server library via DLNA also works as it should

The only trouble, is the latest version of the Plex client on AppleTV.

From the same AppleTV, I can use other players (Infuse) streaming from the same Plex server. So this is not a server issue, or AppleTV issue.

@plex @elan can we get a response to this one? It’s pretty important that plex on tvos can support streams without requiring a live internet connection.

I’ll raise it with the team.

If you’re still seeing it could you get it to happen again then grab and upload your apple tv logs here please? https://support.plex.tv/articles/212639598-apple-tv-logs/

I just did test and found that this is still issue. WAN down, no play…

However - this only seems to affect the “new” player. When I select old player, it plays.
Streams also play using Plex iOS client or Mac client.

WAN down issue affects AppleTV client, and only the “new” player.

There might be other issues not related to Playing

  • No WAN
  • Using the “old player”
  • Using in-app option to Delete episode. ==> Plex Client crash
