No Thumbnails

Thanks so much for all your hard work on PlexConnect. It's really great! I'm having a bit of an issue. Would appreciate any help.

ATV3 - 5.2.1 (6025)

DNS on ATV is set to 149.142.223.163 - the address of my server which is running Ubuntu 13.04 Raring. This is where PMS and Plexconnect are both running. All my media is on an internal drive.

I'm running the current (as of this post) version of plexconnect from github.

No thumbs show up anywhere in the plexconnect interface, but everything is fine otherwise.

Here's a log

http://pastebin.com/8M5vNx0U

The log is fine... thumbnails are requested directly from PMS, there is nothing in this log that could help you...

Questions: is this a Movie, TVShow or HomeVideo section? I would guess: TVShow.

Silly question: Does your PMS have metadata (thumbnails...) for this media? Does it show up in another client (PlexWeb)?

Thumbs don't appear in Movie or TVShow sections. I don't have a HomeVideo section so I can't check there. PMS does have metadata (including thumbnails) for all of my media. The text metadata - show descriptions etc - shows up fine, but the pictures don't. In PlexWeb everything displays as it should.

Edit: Here http://pastebin.com/UmTCqsPW is a paste of my log with "XMLConverter" : 1 in Debug.py. I don't know enough yet to see any obvious errors, but maybe it will help

You are using a public IP for your PMS. PlexConnect is for use with your devices on your LAN.

MyPlex support is planned but your setup is not supported.

Sorry to hear it. Unfortunately I don't have control over my network setup. Any pointers towards what's going wrong so I can try to work around it myself? Thanks for your help, and all your work on PlexConnect

To be honest if you can live without thumbnails for now MyPlex support will be coming, assuming you are able to run PlexConnect on your local LAN.

Hello,

i'am new to Plex and have the same problem.

First of all videoplayback is working fine, great job. not working is thumbnails and pictures.

My config:

  • Your ATV model (2 or 3) and firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software):
    ATV3 5.3(6105)

  • The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS):
    10.10.10.200

  • The device and operating system (including version number) that PlexConnect is installed on:
Windows Server 2012 (tested it on Windows 7/8, same behavior)

  • The local IP address of the device that PlexConnect is installed on:
    10.10.10.200

  • The device and operating system (including version number) that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on:

  • The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on:

  • Where your media is stored (e.g. internal drive):
Drives V:, W:, X: (all drives on LAN)

  • The PlexConnect version number. If using Github source then a time and date of download (look at the creation date of the folder) and if you are using any testing branch e.g. the Elan/PlexInc one.
    Github (24.6.2013)

  • The content of your 'Settings.cfg' file (if you do not have this file you are running an old version, please update)
    [PlexConnect]

is there any solution jet?

thx

@swoop

Is your Windows server with PMS and PlexConnect on virtualised?

I believe we had only come across the missing thumbnails issue before either:

- When the user had VMWare running and it was binding to the wrong IP

or

- When the user was using public IP's

I cannot see anything form the above but maybe Baa or Roidy can decipher the log file for the issue.

@swoop

What happens if you temporarily disable IIS and use the PlexConnect web server, do you still get the same issue?

hey RockStar,

thanks for the reply.

Yes, on my server is PMS and PlexConnect installed and yes, it es a VM on VM-Ware. I can test it with hyper-V if this is helpful?

But i can access my server via RDP so i think it has the right IP. But when i look in the PMS-Controllcenter there is an other http-imagelink

in PMS:

http://127.0.0.1:32400/photo/:/transcode?url=http%3A%2F%2F127.0.0.1%3A32400%2Flibrary%2Fmetadata%2F2830%2Fthumb%2F1372105123&width=256&height=420

in PlexConnect:

http://10.10.10.200:32400/photo/:/transcode?url=/http%3A%2F%2F127.0.0.1%3A32400%2Flibrary%2Fmetadata%2F2833%2Fthumb%2F1372105127/?width=384&height=384&url=http%3A%2F%2F127.0.0.1%3A32400%2Flibrary%2Fmetadata%2F2833%2Fthumb%2F1372105127

i think there is the problem. But im not a programmer so...

There is no IIS on the Server, its just a Windows Server 2012 with nothing extra installed but PMS and PlexConnect.

I'am glad for every sugession to solve the problem.

what can i do to get you more informaitons

greatings

How is the network adapter setup for the VM? Is it shared, bridged or custom?

He Rock Star,

the netzwork adapter is bridged.

But i found a solution.

My aTV and the PMS were not on the same subnet.

aTV: 10.10.20.x

PMS: 10.10.10.x

That's the problem.

I've put them in the same subnet and its working now.

But why is that a problem? The server is accessable vom one to another subnet.

When you ask, why another subnet, because all of my servers are in this subnet.

thank you for your help

i discovered a problem anyway.

Photos are not working.

There are only spaceholders for each picture.

any sugestions?

thx

GDM only works on the same subnet, you can have them on different ones but you would have to disable GDM and hard code the PMS IP and port details.

When you say photos do you mean the posters for media?

If so it is the same issue due to you having a bridged VMWare IP on the machine - try disabling GDM and hardcoding the IP and port of the PMS in settings.cfg.

Ok thanks, i've put the PMS on the same Subnet as the Client for now.

No, the posters for Movies and so on are working, music is working fine to.

When i add a photo section on the PMS, i can only watch them on the PMS not on the aTV.

sorry, Rock Star, false alarm. I accidentaly deleted the networkdrive where the pictures are stores.

thanks for the gread help and many thanks for the great work with PMS and PlexConnect

I have a Plex with ATV3 setup.  Movies and music work fine; however, the photos (personal photos) do not display on TV with ATV3 Trailers but I can see them on my local computer that is running PMS.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

...please start a new thread, describing your issues, with added logs and so on.

Hi,

I have the same issue of the original poster but no VM involved, neither are the two boxes on different subnet (they are both on 255.255.255.0):

- Thumbnails on grid views NOT working

- Thumbnails on "on deck" main views NOT working

- Thumbnails on detailed list, or other layout works fine

- Thumbnails on photo views NOT working

- Playback works fine
