Once again no support for Samsung devices. These must be a decent chunk of your users players surely?
Even more surprising is no Roku support
I think a much bigger issue is the lack of Plex Web or Roku support. Tizen is fairly small market share compared to Roku’s behemoth or the interoperability of the Web UI.
This feature was just launched, so let’s give it some time. I’m hoping it’s available to non-Plex Pass users as long as the server they’re accessing has a Pass. AFAIK we don’t know about that yet either.
edit: nevermind about Roku. It looks like that feature’s been marked as ‘beta’, so I imagine it should be coming soon-ish. Plex Web is still my biggest concern, however.
Nope.
True, but I can see this going the way of the skip intro feature, lots of build up then turns out the users have to have a plex pass too. Bit of a let down.
I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the Skip Intro feature is still, to some degree, in its early stages. I haven’t yet been able to use it through the Web UI or Roku app, and those are really the only platforms my users actively use.
I don’t know if anyone at Plex has said for sure if it will ever be open to non-Plex Pass users, but I’d like to see it work across at least most of their apps before that happens. I’m not saying it’s half-assed or rushed, but it has had literally zero impact on me as of yet because of its lack of cross-platform support.
Yup, myself and 99% of my users use tizen clients. The 1% who don’t, don’t have plex pass so can’t use it anyway. Seems the plex guys would get more feedback on it if they opened it up to more users / platforms
What do you mean by that? The client type support is pretty extensive https://support.plex.tv/articles/skip-content/
I meant user wise, not client wise
ie if home users could test it, there’s be more feedback. I imagine the majority of feedback right now is from server admins with plex pass watching their own content.
Ah, my bad about that. I use Plex’s official docker image for the stable branch, so the Web UI is still on v4.30.x
I’ll be sure to try it out once v4.34.x gets pushed
-as a side note, I’d love to see the docker image get updated with the current stable Web UI more frequently… It is an official image after all
To stay on track though, I’m very surprised the Web UI wasn’t the first to get the Watch Together feature, but as long as it’s planned I’m happy. I just want my users to get access to the features they want as soon as possible.
I consider that a good thing for a new feature. That way the first responses come from users who have a modicum of technical understanding.
Make it working first, then make it easy/beautiful.
I understand where you’re coming from
Id have to agree, Without making another post. Id vote for Web UI being next on the list of ones to get this feature… I work for a program who develops software for military doing video over browsers… so I know that comes with its own hurdles. It is certainly easier for this feature to work with clients with Plex apps and start with its most popular clients first, roku, fire tv, iOS, android etc. I mean, Ive never even heard of Tizen before… lol Way to go Plex! Keep up the good work!
Just got an email for the Plex Together feature. Same with others I saw here I was really surprised the web app doesn’t have support, or even the windows app. Hope these get support soon.
Oh was that just added? I could have sworn I didn’t see roku listed as one of the platforms listed in the article
Anyway, I’m glad it’s there!!! Thanks
