I’m trying to change my username, but I keep getting there error message “USERNAME — USERNAME HAS ALREADY BEEN TAKEN”. There is no user with that name. It’s possible there used to be a user with that username.
You need to wait 1 month, before you can re-use the username and/or the email address of a deleted account.
You are informed about this in the “confirmation” dialog when you delete an account.
It has been over a year since this user existed. Also, I’m only changing the username, not the email.
The age of the account is not relevant.
The time of the deletion of the account, which used the desired user name or email is the deciding factor.
To be clear, the account with the desired user name was DELETED more than a year ago.
Please send me the email or the username in question per PM.
You cannot use your desired username because there is already a Plex account with that user name.
Plex user account names must be globally unique. Which makes it very unlikely that you will be able to pick such a common name.
You cannot know that, because you don’t have access to the global Plex user account list.
Ah, didn’t realize that the username was global.
Perhaps add a new field that is “Display Name” that could be “Albert” for visual purposes?
Currently my other users (family) show just their name, whereas I’m show as “ufbert”.

These are managed users, so they are only valid inside your Plex Home and therefore only need to be uniquely named inside that Plex Home.
