No volume slider in iOS App music player on iPhone X

+1 for returning the volume slider (more so for iPad)

Terrible design decision. Instead of being able to swipe to adjust the volume when driving I have to grab the phone in the mount and fumble with the volume switch. Not an optimal choice while driving. The items that are on the screen instead are practically useless.

What problem were they trying to fix here?

Seems like a change for change sake. And now with iOS 13’s new volume HUD it really seems like a waste of time that could have been better used fixing the many, many, many bugs in this app.

Exactly! Instead of removing volume control completely, they could have turned it into a swipe gesture. Maybe across the lines where the songtitle is displayed. Wouldn’t hurt and not be seen. But I guess this wavepattern stuff was more pleasing to the designers ego.

Well that is a ridiculous decision to remove the onscreen Volume!
I was thinking about getting a subscription but know knowing they hire Idiots to design their apps and don’t listen to their users I’m out ! I’m tired of the Apple approach that company’s take not caring how it effects their customers.
I’ll use DLNA

I use the app Prism Music for IOS as a back up and it links to Plex server. It has onscreen volume and works very well. At least worth checking out in the app store.

Thanks for the hint. I just bought Prism. It works fine and … it has a f****ng volume slider!

And thanks to everyone who joined this crusade. Maybe someone at Plex will notice. Hey! Do you hear us? We are already purchasing other clients! Bring the slider back.

I really hate that they removed this. They really should put it back or make it like VLC on iOS where if u drag your finger up the right side of video that will increase volume. No need to click on any specific place it’s just the entire right side of any playing video.

In the iOS 13 betas, the new iOS volume slider also appears when changing the volume now, total waste of programing time.

There are no plans to bring the slider back. It is not ā€œbrokenā€ because It was intentionally removed, as an extra thing that was not really needed since there are hardware buttons that do the same thing. So it was felt to be redundant and makes the app simpler without it.

I can only suggest that you make a feature suggestion and explain why you want the on screen slider, not just that you want it because you want it. Explain what you feel is the downside of hardware buttons for example.

(To be clear I have no feelings about it either way)

Dear BigWheel! Thank you for your answer, although it is not, what I hoped to hear. I know, that it is not broken and that the removal was intetended. And I do not want it back, just because. I am 50 years old and I have a very large CD collection back to the 70s - especially Metal and Hard Rock. As you know, the CDs in the 80s where recorded at a diffentent volume level, than todays CDs. When I create my playlists, I choose music from all across the centuries. For example: I have a Metal-Mix playlist with over 500 songs which I play like all the time. And since your App does not support a kind of automatic volume adjustment - like iTunes - I have to adjust the volume from sond to song. I find it very annoying, that I have to leave the app in order to reacht IOSs volume control or to pick up the phone to use the buttons. Who does that anyway? When I watch a movie on my iPad which is resting on a stand on the table before me, I do not want to have to pick it up to use the buttons. I want to use one finger. That ist simple! Sorry, but I think, you did not make the app simpler, you amputated it. I already installed an alternative app (Prism) with which I can play music directly from my Plex server and it still has a volume slider. Please think about it! Thank you!

We do actually support volume levelling, and have since November 2018 (https://www.plex.tv/en-au/blog/turning-plex-music-up-to-eleventy/).

@DaveBinM
Thank you! I must have overlooked it. Since I am not a native speaker (Germany), I sometimes miss some topics from the newsletters. I will check it out and I hope, this solves my playlist problem.

But I still think, that it was a mistake to remove the slider! It ist not easier to use the buttons! Every other app I know, which plays movies or music has a volume slider. You are not automatically innovative, just because you do it differently.

Don’t get me wrong - I love PLEX! It enhanced my way to enjoy my digital media and I don’t want to miss it. Just…return the slider please.

It doesn’t matter, because I can’t hear anything anyway… I am angry that Plex does not have a contact for feature suggestions, let alone for tech support… So, I will be blowing up the forums until I can hear my movies,… Plex thinks there’s an embargo on amplitude in their own app.

This update that you guys are talking about made it even worse… I was at the gym the other day with volume all the way up and audio boost on ā€œHugeā€., with two AirPods in, I could hear a conversation 20 feet away louder than I could hear the movie… WITH BOTH the AirPods in!!!

Yep! I too think that he audio boost does not do its job!
Todays update still without volume controle. Still here. Still praying!

Totally agree!!! First time ever posing on here after years and tears as a Plex. pass member but have IPAD pro 12.9 and couple 9.7 and it’s just a pain in the rear to hold the iPad with one hand while pushing button with other, especially if has case and hard to push. Missed the on screen slider.

I just make it optional to have a slider or not

Why not remove it on the Plex Web as well? We have hardware buttons there as well, or even the volume control in Windows/MacOS itself. Seems redundant to me and would make the Plex Web simpler without it.

I understand the reasoning however everyone has their own way of how they like to interact with an app or user interface. If the functionality was already there, why not make it an OPTION TO: ENABLE ON SCREEN VOLUME CONTROL.

That way each individual can personalize their user experience to improve customer satisfaction when it comes to REMOVING features.

That would be like Apple removing the volume slider option in iTunes because there are volume buttons on the keyboard.

That’s just my 2 cents.
