@ChuckPa
I have migrated from Synology DSM 6.x to 7 and have given full control of Plex share folder to PlexMediaServer. I also have given PlexMediaServer R/W access to all libraries including the library where LiveTV & DVR writes. However, I still get an error that says “No write access to destination”. In Synology 6.x I was able as Plex admin user to delete media files (I have checked Server-Library-Show Advanced-Allow media deletion is checked) and LiveTV & DVR also had write permission to Synology DSM. Could you help?

DSM 7 operates differently when it comes to permissions. :roll_eyes:

I’ve found that when I go into a shared folder (from the left panel)

Share → Properties → Permissions tab → Set the permissions I want → “Apply to this folder , sub-folders, and files” → OK.

Have you given that a shot?

(there is a .grab directory which DVR writes to in each library section folder. If it can’t write to that .grab because it’s owned by plex and not PlexMediaServer then it will have fits.)

If you need some special scripting , I’ll help if needed.

(we are still learning DSM 7. It’s only been 7 weeks now since it went public)

If I use the left panels - right click and select properties - permissions…then PlexMediaServer shows it has R/W access. You can select No Access, R/W, or Read Only…I do not see “Apply to sub folder” on the panel (Edit Shared Folder ).

I did already delete the plex user from my Local Users

You do not have this?

It looks like this instead - right click on the library - permissions - system internal user

The ‘plex’ user is no longer around, and I don’t see ‘PlexMediaServer’ as a user - so can’t even give that user R/W control to sub folders…The only place where I see something similar to your screenshot is the Plex folder. How would I change the .grab directory ownership?

@spydey95

The video shared folder is a problem – always has been (Synology claims near-exclusive ownership of it). In DSM 7, it’s worse.

Try this method to relax the permissions . Trumpy has had success with it.

  1. Control Panel - Shared Folders
  2. Right Click the shared folder name
  3. Action
  4. Convert to Windows ACL (it should be labeled “ACL Repair tool”)
  5. Make certain to have it apply the correction to all sub folders and files.

Ok, there’s progress here - I can delete files now using Plex Media Player…but I still get this warning when trying to record OTA. Maybe it just takes time for PMP to propagate the permission…

@ChuckPa - thanks for your patience here. It does appear that it is working now - I can record an OTA show from the DVR guide directly…I hope that means scheduled recordings will also work. Thank you for your help - very appreciated. Awesome to have Plex Pass with HD OTA - saves a bundle on getting local channel access. :thanks:

I’m glad I’ve helped. DSM 7 is not an easy platform to work on anymore.

They took away ALL my privileges .
