I’m pretty stumped. I’m running PMS on a Mac mini M1 box with all my Plex libraries out on a WD My Cloud PR2100. Release versions shown above. The relevant folders are all mounted on the Mac mini and are easily accessible in Finder (Read/Write).

I tried to make my first recordings from Plex in a while last night, and all failed, with the error “No write access to destination”. I have been racking my brain trying to figure this one out, without much success. I’ve seen a lot of posts on this subject here in Forums, but nothing that is exactly “on point” with my setup.

I have no trouble recording to NAS folders from Channels DVR, running on the same Mac mini with access to the same NAS (albeit it writes to a different set of folders than Plex does). The “Share” I have set up on the My Cloud for Plex (and the one for Channels DVR) is configured as “Public”; i.e. anyone/anything on the network has access to it.

I’ll attach the logs (debug logging) but I haven’t seen anything in there that gave me a hint. It seems that I have to enable some kind of “rights” to the Plex NAS folders within Plex or within my Mac settings, but I’m really at a loss.

The frustrating thing is that this always used to work without an issue! BTW no trouble viewing Live TV, watching Movies and TV from the library folders on the NAS, etc.

Anyone else experience this issue and if so, any suggestion on how to resolve? I’m very grateful for any help.

Thanks!

Well… after reading about 50 articles on the topic, I think I figured it out…

I went into my Mac mini (where PMS is running), and in Finder went to the Shares/Folders on the My Cloud where Plex files reside. I used Ctrl + Shift + . to reveal hidden folders. Within my Movies and TV folders/libraries I spotted the “.grab” folders. Deleted every instance of them I could find. Went back into PMS and see up a recording of a TV show to begin immediately and - presto - it works!

I used to have PMS running on the My Cloud but about 14 months ago, moved it to the Mac mini - which has a different account name. I guess that the “.grab” folders contain some kind of permissions for the Plex user activities. Since the PMS account name on the Mac mini didn’t match what had been set up ages ago when the NAS was running everything, I was getting denial of access.

Looks like everything is golden once again! I wonder if this instruction about deleting and regenerating the .grab folder is documented anywhere?
