Not able to see the contents on plex server via windows media player

Server Version#: 1.18.6.2350
Player Version#: windows media player

Windows media player can’t see the contents hosting on plex server running on WD my cloud home 6tb. It shows “The remote library refuse the connection, please contact the device manufacturer”.

Meanwhile, if I use VLC player, it’s working fine.

Tried:

  1. uninstall the plex server on wd my cloud home and install it again.
  2. factory reset wd my cloud home and install the plex server after the resetting.

Please assist.

have you tried enabling DLNA?

As mentioned above, you need to enabled Plex’s DLNA server. Windows Media Player is a DLNA client. It finds content from DLNA servers.

VLC finds files like a file explorer, so as long as the files are accessible on your network, VLC will find them. Nothing is being served to VLC, it just reads the files directly.

Yes. DLNA is enabled. Settings are default settings.

if dlna is not on, I can’t see the server. I can see the server. Just the contents (music and movies) are not shown.

Just found out that the Plex DLNA server is not compatible with Windows Media Player. WMP accessing files in an unusual way and is unable to read/get the data from Plex. Sorry. Please try another DLNA client like VLC.

tried plex app on my mobile, apple tv and sony tv. All don’t work. I can see the contents. after clicking play, it shows an error occurred.

From the version number you listed of 1.18.6, I assume you have a WD My Cloud Home device. There is an issue with these devices currently. In the Plex apps find the setting for insecure connections and set it to “allow on same network” or “always”.

tried. same issue.

Is there any news about the case?

No news. It’s one of those cases where we can’t reproduce on our own devices so it’s hard to figure out what’s causing the issue.

Is there any log we can anlyse?

I’ve got a bunch of logs already. We are investigating.
