I recently got an Android TV Box. It is connected to my home network via ethernet on the same home network as my media server. Anytime I try to stream using the Plex android app I get an error message saying that it is unable to stream.
Any thoughts?
Some easy things to try: on the server set secure connections to “preferred”, and on the client set allow insecure connections to “on same network” and see if that helps resolve the stream issue.
That setting was already there on my server. I can’t find that option on the client…
The error that I’m receiving is “playback has stopped because the connection to the plex media server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry.”
I can play the exact same content on my mobile device through wifi without any issues …
Thanks
so you are able to connect to the plex server, navigate your library, see video covers and then when you try to play one it says “unable to stream”? if so, can you try a few different titles? do you have any music you can try and stream? Is that the entirety of the error message?
I can connect to the media server, navigate my library and see all video covers. I’ve tried a few different videos and they all say
“playback has stopped because the connection to the plex media server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry.”
Music seems to work.
One thing I tried was enabling the Android Media Player and found that doing so allowed the videos to stream but with no sound.
Is there some sort of log file or technical thing that I can upload that would help in finding a resolution to this problem?
Is this the only support channel for lifetime plexpass users!?
I would use the android player as you stated and then I am sure it is a sound setting. I have several firetv devices (both gens) and have found that if I turn off (un-check) all the sound options in the plex app (client)… Voila sound. Even though the specs on the fire clearly state dts capable bla bla bla. The only android that I have owned that has not needed this is the Nvidia shield. Hopefully that works for you.
If not I just wasted 3 minutes of your life and I apologize.
Thanks! This seems to have done the trick
I hope that whatever the issue is with DTS is resolved if and when I eventually get a surround sound system for my TV.
Cheers!
I have mine piped through AV receiver and this still outputs in 5.1 surround and 7.1 discreet but it shows as PCM on my receiver instead of DD 3/2.1 bla bla bla. So you will have no issues. I believe this has to due with androids pass through implementation of sound. IE: needs to be I believe running nougat so it has raw pass through or iec pass through.
Long story short… you will be fine and not have to set these differently.
