Sony Android TV Error: Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost

Greetings
I’m having a problem playing video files (any) on my new Sony Android TV set x950g (Android 8) with Plex app installed. Whenever I play a file from my Plex server installed on my PC with Windows 10 over LAN and bring up the Plex player controls (rewind, pause etc.) after about a minute, the playback stops and throws up an error: “Error: Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry”. Tried to set up the server from scratch, uninstalled and reinstalled the app from PlayStore, change the connection from Ethernet to WiFi on the TV but nothing helps. I can’t pause or use other player controls without Plex stopping. Playing the files on my Android phone works fine.

  • PC with Windows 10 x64 connected to Asus router via Ethernet, TV connected to Asus router via Ethernet
  • Plex Server: 1.18.7.2457-77cb9455c, February 24, 2020
  • Plex Player on Android TV: 7.29.0.15876, March 3, 2020
  • Log files attached

You’ll need to provide the log from the Android TV too.

Ok. Here are both logs from today:

Server log:

Android TV log:
AndroidTVNetworkLog.zip (163.1 KB)

Thank you for your help

Can you recreate and get new logs? You saved the Android logs as an rtf and all the formatting got stripped so it’s really hard to read. Just save it as a standard txt file.

Is this ok? The html doesn’t give me formated text…I can recreate the log and simply copy paste the text to notepad if that helps…

TvLogtxt.txt (1.1 MB)

Nope, that didn’t work. Saving the html should include the line feeds, but it’s not so not sure whats going on there. Please try using notepad.

How about this:

TVLog.txt (1.2 MB)

Simple copy paste from html to Notepad.

Nope. What browser are you using? Do you see line breaks yourself in the browser before saving?

Edge. This one is from Chrome now:

ChromeHTMLTvlog.txt (1.3 MB)

Haha. This one has 2 line feeds. This will be fine. I’ll get back to you after I review.

 Thank you. Sorry for all the mess

The error is showing a problem with the audio. Is your TV connected to a receiver? You have passthrough enabled so the app is taking the ac3 audio and sending it out to whats connected. If you don’t have a receiver, turn off the passthrough setting and see if that helps.

Yes, my TV is connected to a Denon AVR via optical toslink. The AVR is capable of decoding DD and DTS so I have passthrough enabled and those two selected in Plex settings.

And you’ve chosen optical passthrough?

Yes, it’s set up correctly. Everything else works (Netflix etc.) and has worked without problems on my previous TV set on that connection. Sound (DTS and DD) also works in android tv Plex but it just errors on menu show up like I mentioned.

I’m confused. Does it work or give an error?

Everything, video, sound works normally UNTIL I bring up the player’s controls (if I want to pause the stream for example). Then it throws an error.

Huh. That’s unusual. From your earlier log I just saw it fail to play from the beginning. So you are saying it will start playing, but once you bring up the on screen controls, it fails and gives an error?

Can you recreate that and provide me a new log? Let it play for about 30 seconds before bringing up the controls.

Yes, it plays but bringing up the controls gives an error.
Here you go:

Ok thanks. I see the error when you try bringing up the controls. I’m gonna have to pass this along to the dev team to look. Will get back to you when I hear more.
