Not able to upgrade to version 1.40.0.7998 for windows

i have 3 windows plex servers, 2 are identical in terms of version and content, the 3rd is smaller and different content, the 2 that are the same do have slightly different hardware but nothing major, never had issues before upgrading. so the 3rd smaller upgraded fine from 1.32.8.7639 to 1.40.0.7998 . of the 2 identical content servers 1 failed to upgrade, i thought i saw some splash error in the UI like “something went wrong” text, but then it would just sit on “have a cup of tea and wait” when i would click retry it would just show me that server’s plex UI and when i go to settings it still have the old version 1.32.8.7639, so is there a log that would tell me what went wrong ?? i google’ed around and saw lots of people having upgrade issues with to this 1.40 version…

Any help appreciated. thanks

Downgrade back to 1.13.8
then perform a database repair.

You can use GitHub - ChuckPa/PlexDBRepair: Database repair utility for Plex Media Server databases for a semi-automatic operation.

wow! i can def do that i’m a dev myself. are you sure that is the issue without having seen any error message or log file ?

also i really wish plex could detect such issue and auto correct the dbase from any issues that arose from older versions as part of the upgrade, or have a pop up that says we’ve detected issues would you like to do a repair, please backup your dbase first  sort of process

It’s the most likely issue.

Also worth checking is the amount of free space on C: (or wherever you have moved your Plex data folder). The database conversion that is necessary upon updating to 1.40 is going to need quite a bit of space.

yes plenty of space

little help please i can’t find that version anywhere 1.13.x , i tried google searching , most sites that cache them don’t have it , like this one doesn’t Older versions of Plex (Windows) | Uptodown

where can i find it please ? thanks

It should be in your Plex data folder, in the subfolder Updates

nope just

1.32.6.7557 , 1.32.7.7621 , 1.32.8.7639 , 1.40.0.7998

that’s it.

Oops, sorry!
I meant the previous version which would be 1.32.8

thanks, yeah since it failed upgrade it stayed on 1.32.8 so im good i’ll try the database repair and see

well that worked :), but… so the database repair went fine, i could not do an in UI upgrade as i has clicked to skip the 1.40 version LOL  … so i closed plex and just ran the 1.40 .exe it installed fine then had a windows progress UI of updating database took about 2 to 3 mins, then plex loaded it’s all good… i say that to say i don’t know if i still might have had issues trying to do it via the plex UI the update from 1.32 to 1.40 but least it worked. that’s all i care about, thanks so much
