Not all movies loading in library

I have several hundred movies on Plex. Have them divided into about 20 libraries. Discovered that some movies are not loading on to Plex. If I move them to a different library they will load. Looked at setting for the different libraries and they are the same.

The ones that do not load have names that are close to other ones in Library, but I have tried renaming them in computer and reloading and it did not help.

thanks for any help

Edit, have discovered a couple more that have not loaded and find that they are all movies that have been remade. In some cases the original loads and in some cases the remake loads.

Are you sure they’re not added at all or could it be they’re mismatched to those similarly named ones? You can double-check that by filtering your library for duplicates and check which files are associated to each entry (Edit > Info)

Following the Plex naming schema I have yet to find a movie that didn’t match. If you have tricky cases while following the standard naming schema you can improve the matching quality by including an external ID into your movie’s file/folder names (e.g. Movie Name (Release Year) {imdb-tt1234567} or Movie Name (Release Year) {tmdb-12345}).

Yeah, double check that maybe your movies aren’t being mis-identified as duplicates of existing movies. If you aren’t using the proper naming convention for your films, Plex does its best to compare the name versus an online source (by default, I think TheMovieDB?). If the names are similar (or named improperly), it might mismatch. One example I can think of might be “The Mummy (2017)” and “The Mummy (1999)”.

It might explain why they show up properly in one library but not the other, as Plex has a confidence factor in determining whether to match a movie to something on IMDB/TMDB, and that might have changed enough. Or, based on your edit, it depends on if you have a movie with a different release date.

Do what Tom said, and filter your movie collection based on “Duplicates”. Any movie that shows up on that filter is most likely one of your missing movies. Choose the option to “split” the video, then confirm which movie is associated with the file (triple dot → Get Info → verify file name matches the movie). If it’s wrong, choose “Fix Match” and pick the right movie.

But if the file was properly labeled in the first place with release year, that will do a GREAT job of fixing any ambiguity when plex identifies it automatically. Check the movie on TMDB, name it the same, with the release year. If you prefer your own movie format names, you may have to manually fix the matches for a lot of movies once.
