Library scan not finding a movie

Server Version#: 1.22.3.4523
Player Version#: Various on all sorts of devices and PCs

Hi. I’m sorry if this has already been answered but I have searched and can’t find anything on this particular movie.

The movie is I.D. (1995)
I.D. (1995) - IMDb
I.D. (1995) — The Movie Database (TMDb) (themoviedb.org)

I have tried renaming the file all sorts of ways ID (1995).mkv, I.D (1995) and I.D. (1995), but plex doesn’t add the movie to my library, anyone else had this problem.

Thanks for your time, Paul.

I suppose that’s more of a tricky one given how short the name is.
You should be able to manually match it – or include the reference in the respective folder.

Example:

Movies <- the folder linked to your movie library
  I.D. (1995) {tmdb-15322}
    I.D. (1995).ext

OR

Movies <- the folder linked to your movie library
  I.D. (1995) {imdb-tt0113375}
    I.D. (1995).ext

Where .ext is the file extension of your movie.

Hi. thanks for your time.

The folder and name is :

D:/2D Movies/I.D. (1995).mkv

or any of the other variations of the file name, but the folder structure and extension are always the same there is over 4000 files in the folder and this is the only one (as far as I can tell, I do have about 150 duplicate movies but haven’t had time to sort them) that’s not picked up by the server.

That’s the thing with Plex though.
4000 movies named badly but identify correctly (or by the sounds of it not following the required folders structure), doesn’t mean there is a problem with one file. It means you have 4000 files not following Plex guidelines. If you can live with the odd item that needs manually matching then fair enough.

As a side note I just pulled that movie (I always use tmdb (@tom80H first example).
Plex detected it straight away.

Thanks again for taking the time to help, I really do appreciate it.

I thought as a general rule the naming was just xxxxxxx (year).ext and all files went into the main folder for that content.

So should I now have this.
D;/2D Movies/I.D. (1995) {tmdb-15322}/I.D. (1995) {tmdb-15322}.mkv

Sorry for not understanding but I’ve never ran into this problem before and I’ve been running Plex since 2014.

Thanks Paul.

Hi again.

I’ve just tried it as above and it still doesn’t add it to the library, I must be missing something, but I can’t figure out what…

Thanks

The movie might have been added but mismatched as a duplicate of an existing item.
Try this:

  1. move the folder outside of the movie library folder
  2. scan your library for updates
  3. empty the library trash
  4. return the file to its location
  5. scan your library for updates

Thank you sooooo much, tom80H, that worked.

I did exactly as you said and it worked, I will now be spending weeks putting all my movies in their own folders.

Thanks for such a rapid response, this forum is amazing.

Look into FileBot and/or Radarr for organizing your movies.
