Not allowed to access new server

Greetings,

Lifetime plex pass owner here - have installed plex media servers on multiple linux VMs over the years, deleted all of them and now spawned another one.

This time, no matter what I try, I can’t access the server, I get the “not allowed to access this server” typical error. I’m dumbfounded and don’t know what do do.

My preferences.xml file on the new server doesn’t have any previous login info. I have wiped out all previous authorized devices/servers but still no solution.

Any ideas?

  1. did you claim it?
  2. can you actually ping the server from outside?

When Plex can’t connect to the plex authentication servers it will give this error. Check the plex logs. Sometimes it can’t connect to plex.direct so you can read up on that.

Thank you for your response

I can ping the server from another server.
I cannot claim the server. I don’t have the option. I can get a claim code but I have nowhere to paste it in the settings.

They changed how to claim the server not too long ago. But yeah check the logs as it seems like Plex can’t connect outside.

I think I misunderstood what you meant. I’m not exposing my server to the outside. I only want to use it on local network. Not opening any ports.

Yes, but Plex needs to be able to communicate with its servers. Also if nat reflection is not enabled in your router you need to add plex.direct to be able to authenticate.
