I believe you will want to get rid of the advertise ip line too. Afaik that is needed for bridge mode, but not for host.
Removed that line and tested once more. It continues to disconnect within seconds of retrying the “Manually Specify Public Port” option. Unticking that box and letting it try to do it automatically has it thinking for ages, without ever actually allowing for remote connection.
Is it showing your actual Public IP in PMS settings now? ie. does it match with the IP shown at https://canyouseeme.org/
It is showing my actual Public IP in PMS now yes. And it shows the same port number as well (32400). However, it stays green for maybe a minute? Then goes red and loses connection.
Open Port Checker Tool - Port Tester Using this tool, it says the port is open. So I’m at a loss as to what the problem is now.
If it helps, everything INTERALLY on my own network is working flawlessly, it’s only external that is a problem.
Yup, it’s displaying that address. Yes, I’ve disabled and re-enabled it, I’ve rebooted the PC the VM is running on. I’ve even gone so far as to factory reset the ISP’s Modem/Router device and reset every setting in the web portal (including the firewalls settings), and still nothing works.
Whether or not I set Manually Specify Public Port or not, it doesn’t matter. It stays green until someone tries to access it then it goes to red and not available.
And does the IP address shown in PMS and at canyouseeme match what your router reports as its public/WAN IP address?
I can’t reach canyouseeme.org, or portchecker.co. The Public IP Address on PMS does match what I get when I do a Google Search for “What is my IP Address” as well as what I see at Portcheckers.com. When I check my Public IP Address and Manually Specified Port there, it comes back as being closed. But I’ve forwarded the port through my ISP’s provided Modem/Router device.
OK, but does your WAN IP in your router match what shows in PMS (and whatismyip)?
After checking it again, yes. My WAN IP in the router matches what is shown in PMS as well as at whatismyip.
Reason for asking was to eliminate possible cgnat related issue. I don’t recall seeing your WAN IP checked/confirmed previously in the thread. So that should be ruled out now.
What is the error you get when trying to access https://canyouseeme.org/? The fact that you can’t hit a publicly accessible website is indicative of some sort of issue in and of itself.
OK so you have routing issues or something.
Do you have another device on the same network that you can test with? Even phone on wifi should suffice.
Yeah, I’ve got my mobile phone I can use. What should I do?
If I’m just supposed to visit the same page, it’s giving me the error “ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED”
It looks like the factory reset of the modem/router killed something you missed during the reconfiguration
You might have to get on the phone with your ISP and have them guide you through the process if no one here has any ideas
And if you try and access it from your phone on LTE instead? (Assuming your phone and ISP are different providers)
Things are currently pointing to issues with your ISP/Internet, since now you’ve got multiple devices that cannot connect. Typically I would be leaning towards CG-NAT or VPN, but you said your WAN IP was ok, and unless you have router level VPN then that shouldn’t be the issue either.
If I try and access it from LTE data, it opens instantly. (My phone and ISP are from the same telecommunication company).
In this photo, the Overview > State portion is from my ISP’s Router Portal where I can add things like the Port Forwarding. What’s my IP is just from a Google Search of “What is my IP Address”, and the PLEX part down below is from my PLEX Server. All 3 blacked out numbers match each other exactly. Just for context sake, as stated above the private address side is a 172.18 address because my servers a docker container and the 172 address is my containers local network address. I saved a copy of the edited docker with all the suggestions made in this thread and went back to the original one for the time being as it was working fine a week ago or so and now has suddenly stopped working.
Despite there being a green arrow there, it is a lie. I still cannot access the public facing part of the PLEX (on my phone with LTE for example), and after maybe 5 minutes or so it goes red again.
The remote access going green initially is a red herring. It will always go green after you make a change, while Plex is actually checking the access. Once the check is complete it correctly changes to red. It is not actually briefly working and then stopping.
OK, since it is accessible via LTE, everything at this stage is pointing to an issue stemming from your ISP (or your router, but you mentioned you factory reset it already). You will likely need to contact their tech support to start troubleshooting why you’re having routing/access issues. Something is wrong if you’re having trouble even loading some websites, never mind port forwarded remote access to an application.
I’ve tried contacting them previously twice (first person I don’t think fully understood what I was asking about, second managed to help me restore my internet service after factory resetting their hardware, but also had no clue what I was talking about once I started talking about port forwarding) but nothing ever came of it.
I assume that I’m just asking the wrong questions of them. What, specifically, should I be saying to someone who is doing basic tech support to try and get this resolved when I next call them?
I would start off simple, don’t even mention port forwarding at this stage.
I cannot get to these websites using your internet. I can get to them using LTE. What is wrong?
