Not available outside your network

Server Version#: 1.24.3.5033
Player Version#: Web 4.66.1

Hi,

since yesterday (30th Sep. 2021) my plex server shows the error message " Not available outside your network" in the “Remote Access” tab.

Plex is running on an Ubuntu 20.04 machine with 3 Interfaces:
2 private interfaces, 1 used for local in-home streaming, 1 used for mgmt access of the server
1 public interface, used for external connections from web clients and smart TV apps.
On the public interface I get a fixed public IP from my provider, so no NAT is in place.

The strange thing about that issue is that only external plex apps on smart TVs are affected, the plex web app works perfectly from my local network and from external, and on both app.plex.tv any on the dedicated URL to my server.
Also the fire-tv app which I use locally to watch content works normal.

I have noticed that there are some more threads of users which have similar issues, however all of them are using NAT and port-forwarding.
Since my server has a dedicated public IP and I still have the issue could it be that it is not related to my server but a general problem with the Plex service?
I have also tried disabling the 2 local interfaces, but that didn’t change anything.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I think this issue is on plex side.
My remote access stopped working yesterday (but i haven’t changed a thing since few months. And remote clients on ipad/ios still work)

Same issue and yes it’s on Plex’s end, it was posted on the status page yesterday but now it’s not and the problem still exists unfortunately.

I am also still suffering with this issue across 3 of my servers, I would have put it down to my network, but 2 of them sit in a datacentre and not the same datacentre either.
They claim the issue as been resolved but clearly its not.

Lets hope they relise there is a bigger issue and that its not actually fixed.

Hello Guys, it’s 100% Related to Letsencrypt, they killed over 3 Million Root Certificates due to new Keys, my Opinion is that Plex doesn’t Signed the New ones. All Certificates based on IdentTrust DST Root CA X3 are invalid. Show on https://community.letsencrypt.org/

Best Regards

Hi Guys, thanks for all your replies.
It’s not quite what I hoped, but at least I’m confirmed in my assumption that my server is OK and it’s a general Plex issue.
Let’s hope they can fix that soon.

1st step is realizing there’s a problem

True, is there a way to create an support ticket or something in order to get plex staff to see the issue quicker?

None that I know off - One would think a look at the forum would suffice.

As of 09/30/2021, my Plex Server (macOS Mojave) is experiencing this issue. I spent oodles of time verifying my pfSense firewall NAT port forwarding, Little Snitch, my AV, MacOS FW, and Plex trying to find some rhyme or reason to why since 2013, suddenly Remote access has no outside access.

I can only present the following facts:
1.) If Network->Secure Connections is set to “Preferred” or “Required”, Remote Access doesn’t work.
2.) If Network->Secure Connections is set to “Disabled”, Remote Access works and shows online.

I’ve been running pretty much since forever with Network->Secure Settings set to “Preferred”, and have not experienced this issue until yesterday (09/30/2021).

Work around (obviously) is to set Network->Secure Settings to disabled, but I do have a few Web users who will be confused when https doesn’t work, and will need to click to find “direct connection”. Frankly, I don’t know how that will affect other apps, except for iOS app which seems to work fine with the work-around when testing from an outside network.

AFAICS, this is a Plex issue, and I suspect it is a certificate problem somewhere…

Now I see here in the forums that a bunch for certs were invalidated…which only confirms…

So, in the meantime, if you need a work-around, try setting “Network->Secure Connections” to “Disabled”, until Plex fixes the issue.

Hopefully, they will get on it today…

@barryguzik
thanks for the tip, I will try that.

In the meantime i wrote the plex staff a mail via the contact page on the website. Maybe this helps.

@zolitoronto_gmail_com:

I suspect the issue is that web-GUI interface cannot talk to your Plex server via Secure Connections, so it is telling you it is “unreachable”. I’m willing to bet that your server and drives and files are still there running fine…
