Not enough bandwidth for direct play of this item. Required bandwidth is X and only 10000kbps is available

Server Version#:1.25.2.5319 (UnRAID docker)
Player Version#:Shield & Android TV Lates

So, I’ve been having an issue where my transcode reason is the above. The X could be anything from 15Mb/s to 110Mb/s, but that’s probably not too important since neither number is higher than 10Mb/s.

The question is, what is going on here? I’ve got gigabit connections on the server, the Nvidia Shield client, and on the Bravia a80h TV (using a USB Gigabit dongle).

Further mystifying me is that the TV, which is one of the devices getting the complaints, isn’t always. I’ve checked and seen streams running in the 90Mb/s range without complaints. But then time for another movie, and, poof, it’s complaining about not getting better than 10Mb/s.

Meanwhile, from a phone, I’m doing 4K at 20.2Mb/s with no issues. So it’s not like the server itself is running at 10Mb/s or something.

Here’s what should be the relevant logs. Any thoughts?

I could be mis-reading the logs, but it appears as though the server is applying a remote stream bitrate limit in these instances. Specifically, the server seems to be treating requests from your 192.168.1.0/x network as coming from the WAN.

Questions:

  • What do you have configured for “Limit remote stream bitrate” in Settings → Remote Access?
  • Did you configure the server to treat 192.168.1.0/x as local in Settings → Network → LAN Networks?

Checkbox “Treat WAN IP As LAN Bandwidth” and fill in your LAN IP/netmask under “LAN Networks”

That appears to have done it.

Thanks, all. Not clear how we ended up sometimes good and sometimes bad, but we’re good now.
