I’ve been running Plex for a few years with no issues at all. I moved to Japan 9 months ago and it has been working perfectly here as well (download speeds clock about 800mbs and uploads 600mbs).
Recently the internet went down and a tech came to fix it. He told me he replaced a hub or something on the floor. This is Japan so translation is usually way off. So I’m not sure what he actually replaced.
There is an internal router attached to the apartment, it has a CAT plug and is the size of a std wall switch (no brand name on the front). As far as I know I have no access to the router settings. Anyway, ever since the fix, everything streaming from my PC is hung at 1000kps. Regardless of same network or not, wifi or plug, doesn’t matter. I have every setting set to max, I’ve tried tweaking them one notch lower then back up then down. I’ve changed the settings on the server side and the players side on my ipad, laptop, android phone and Fire Sticks (2 of them). And of course Remote Access also states it is unavailable on the server. I’ve turned Enable Relay on/off multiple times. I’ve shut down all syncing of Google and MS on my PC. The PC has plenty of power to stream my videos, 11th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-11700 @ 2.50GHZ and RTX3060. Just trying to watch a 20 min episode of Ghosts which is only 156mb is terribly downgraded, it looks like I’m streaming from 1996.
I got a separate VPN router that did fix it (not because of the VPN feature, got the VPN feature because of Japan), however my floor and the three floors below me went out when I hooked it up (I have tried it 3 times, same result of 1-2 days of no internet). The tech had to come and reset everything. Not sure if that is a coincidence or not but I feel like it is interfering with the system but I’m not sure how that could happen. Before I try the router again to prove that is/isn’t my router. Does anyone have any idea what would cause everything to stream at 1000kps?
All I can find when playing a video under Playback Info and Transcode Reason: Not enough bandwidth for direct play…only 1000kps is available.
