Not enough cpu

I am having his problem. My message is: “Something went wrong playing your media. Please try again. Could not direct play because: Not enough bandwidth for direct play of this item. Required bandwidth is 4918kbps and only 2000kbps is available. Could not transcode because: Not enough CPU for conversion of this item.” I don’t know what is limiting it to 2000kbps and the CPU is more than powerful enough for the transcoding.

the movie works fine on Apple TV and on the iPhone but I can’t stream on the iPad

The Now Playing tile on your server’s dashboard is usually a good friend when it comes to that kind of issues. My guess is you’ll find the stream to be considered Indirect (instead of Local or Remote) – this happens if your stream is considered remote but there’s some issue with the remote access setup / connection. Those indirect connections use a relay server of Plex and are limited to 1 Mbps (2 Mbps for Plex Pass members).

Another option is you’ve set the iOS client to transcode the videos to 2 Mbps quality for certain streaming scenarios (local/internet).

Edit:
Not sure about the CPU’s power to transcode as you haven’t shared much on that matter.

Well this happens most of the time on my sons iPad, when he is not at home. It happens to me to when im at my girlfriends house. I have the plexpass but still get the same error. the problem is this issue only affects iPads not the iPhone or the Apple TV.
The Relay option is deactivated on my server.

When it comes to CPU I should be more than safe im running Plex on my M1 Mac Mini.
is there any more information you need?

Thanks for your help

Most clients by default restrict remote streams (playing outside the house) to 2000 Kbps (2 Megabits). Did you check your iPad player’s setting to remove this restriction?

Intrustions for iPhone (hopefully has similar steps to iPad) follow:

  • Tap the triple line button to show the sidebar
  • Go to Settings (gear icon)
  • Tap Quality
  • Check Remote Streaming amount. If not set to “Maximum”, then tap it and change the value

it is already set to maximum.
i have checked all the settings, they are the same for my iPhone as for the iPad.
