Not refreshing movie posters

HI,

Just to chime in this issue began with plexmediaserver_1.18.2.2058-e67a4e892_amd64.deb.

plexmediaserver_1.18.2.2041-3d469cb32_amd64.deb still works correctly so downgrading gets the posters back.

Subsequent updates all have the same issue:
plexmediaserver_1.18.3.2111-5a96726d0_amd64.deb
plexmediaserver_1.18.3.2129-41af4e729_amd64.deb

Just bumping this to say:
I still do not get images when importing metadata, where I used to.

Confirmed. Downgrading to plexmediaserver_1.18.2.2041 and refreshing the metadata allowed it auto select the correct movie poster instead of a screenshot.

Same here- Can confirm plexmediaserver_1.18.2.2041 is automatically updating posters! Yay

May I have the log files please?

I ask, if possible, may I have

  1. Logs showing the failure from 1.18.2.2129 or similar
  2. Another set of logs after reinstalling 2041 showing the success

I’m having the exact same issue and I’ve tried the usual fixes - just replying so I get an update when it’s fixed. I’m a plex pass subscriber and it’s pretty annoying, so hopefully it’ll be fixed soon.

Folks:

This is a very annoying problem but not super widespread.
Regardless, We want to figure out the root cause.

To that end, I ask for everyone with this problem to provide:

  1. Agent stacking order from (Settings -Agents -
    a. Movies - Personal Media
    b. Movies - Plex Movie
c, Movies - The Movie Database

  2. The impacted library section(s) - Advanced tab

    b. Agent
    c. Cast Liist Source
    d. Plot Summary Source
    e. Country

Chuck,

I’ll do my best when I get a new movie to add. It seems to just affect movies however I’ve not added any new TV Shows for quite some time.

Thanks. Even partial data (how the current configurations are) is a good start.
Capturing the failing and then successful events would be ideal.

We have a reasonable hypothesis but can’t reproduce it… yet

Chuck,

Pics attached as requested. I have 1.2GB of logs in the log

Movies Advanced Tab 1 Movies Advanced Tab 2 Movies Advanced Tab 3 folder. Specifically - which ones do you need - eg Plex Media Scanner?

I just moved over to a new system and moved the data per Plex instructions but it still went and rescanned movies undoing all the work I had done grouping, ungrouping, renaming sort, etc on 700 movies. Aside from that continued frustration, I also noticed the posters weren’t showing even for ones with local ā€œfolderā€ blu-ray image scans due to initial (re) matching. Also noticed it when I split movies apart. Then noticed it on an added TV show and couldn’t get it to update and when looking for resolution found this post.
What seems to be happening in my case, and possible the rest, isn’t just a poster update, but that none of the metadata is updating for ā€˜new’ titles. So when do a ā€˜fix match’ or any match, I select the correct match but none meta data/edit info fields are being populated, posters are just part of that lack of data.

a. Personal Media - Local Media
b. Local Media - Plex Movie - Fanart - CineMaterial - OpenSubtitles
c. Local Media - TMD - Fanart - Plex Movie

a. Plex Movie Scanner
b. TMD
c. ? Don’t know where this is as it isn’t the same menu or any other that I can find though I recall seeing it somewhere at some point and believe it was set to TMD but I don’t see it in the libraries or manage libraries (why are these different??) or anywhere else.

SHIELD version: 8.0.1
Server version: 1.18.3.2129
Client version: 7.25.3.14365 (SHIELD), 6.5.2 (iOS), 1.4.1.940 (macOS), app.plex.tv

I’ve been having the same issue, with my timing lining up with the affected build. As part of my personal troubleshooting I’ve rebuilt my SHIELD server from scratch, meaning I can’t roll back to the version mentioned as working above. Oops. I’ve also tried the beta branch with no luck.

I’ve also more often than not come across the issue that if I perform a Scan on a library, PMS functionally hangs until I cancel the scan, restart the PMS service, or reboot the SHIELD.

Performance appears to tank during a scan where this was not the case previously. Performance also seems to dip if I Refresh Metadata manually on several movies, picking up again once it finishes doing whatever it was doing. Clients tend to timeout, and receive a ā€˜There was an unexpected error loading this library’ message.

Results are inconsistent; I get a mix of no poster/no metadata, screenshot/no metadata, poster/correct metadata, etc. Cast/rating/extras may or may not be present.

Per @ChuckPa’s request:

1 Agent stacking order from (Settings -Agents -

a. Movies - Personal Media: Personal Media > Local Media Assets (Movies)
b. Movies - Plex Movie: Local Media Assets (Movies) > Plex Movie
c. Movies - The Movie Database: Local Media Assets (Movies) > The Movie Database

2 The impacted library section(s) - Advanced tab

a. Scanner: Plex Movie Scanner
b. Agent: Plex Movie
c. Cast List Source: The Movie Database
d. Plot Summary Source: The Movie Database
e. Country: Australia

Happy to PM logs if this would help.

Logs - Movie Posters not working in .2058
Plex Media Server Logs_2019-12-09_12-31-15 - VERSION -1.18.2.2058 .zip (96.6 KB)

Downgraded to version .2041 and refreshed metadata for the two movies worked successfully

Logs - Movie Posters updated in .2041
Plex Media Server Logs_2019-12-09_12-35-10 - VERSION - 1.18.2.2041 .zip (64.9 KB)

Thanks for the info and those logs. VERY clean. Thanks.
I passed them direct to Engineering.
I’ll update with feedback.

Thanks. Having the same issue, will wait for resolution from engineering.

We now are onto a lead.

For those with the problem still, who have not reverted to an earlier version,

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Delete "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Data/com.plexapp.system/HTTPCookies"
  3. Start PMS
  4. Scan files - see if it rectifies itself
  5. If not - Refresh the metadata
  6. Report results and whether Scan or Refresh needed.

I had to refresh meta data but that did seem to fix it! Thanks!

@elembemedia

Confirm please which version you’re using?

I can confirm it fixed the issue, thank you!
Posters are now automatically selected and shown.

On Synology, Plex version: 1.18.3.2129

Chuck,

I hope these are the correct logs. v2041 works.
