Not sure how to update Plex manually

So I have Plex open in my browser, and periodically it will say “server update available” but I have to manually update it. Example, I am currently on version 1.20.2.3402 and it says the new one is 1.23.6.4881.

So I click the link to download the file, then it asks me what to open it with. I choose “Plex media server” and it opens Plex but nothing else happens. In th top corner it still says new version available.

I have no idea how to actually run the update. Why do I have to do this manually every time anyway, I have it set to update automatically?

Anyway, help is definitely appreciated.

Other maybe pertinent details, my files all love on a Western Digital NAS drive, I’m using a windows 10 laptop to operate Plex.

Check for the file in the Browser Download Folder…

I do not know why auto-update is not working on your system.

You can download the current version from plex.tv/download.

The download is a .exe file, so double click to run like any other executable.
