Yesterday, my daughter Emailed and said she was experiencing the same problems that I was having, so I used the link that she sent me. It was working yesterday, but not NOW!
Everything disappeared from my HOME, Movies, Live TV, DVR, etc. It says “Server Not Available”. so I rebooted, etc. I had almost 1000 movies, plus TV Series, etc.
PLUS, but not as important here:
Commercials were less right after you announced removal, but now they’re more than before and I have to wonder if you’re being paid to leave some in, especially the drugs and lawyers!
PLEASE someone help answer what I can do to restore everything! What am I paying for???
Do you only use Web shows? We don’t ever inject commercials into your library content. (LiveTV/DVR commercials are from whatever network you watch/record it from, we don’t provide TV content)
Can you take a screenshot of whatever you are seeing
I record mostly live TV on Chicago channels, 2, 5, 7, 9, 11. Morning & Evening News & a few TV series. When the commercial removal was announced, most of the commercials were removed, but the station promos were still there, but now there are a lot more commercials than before, often 2-3 in a row and long ones!! I would love it if 90% were gone!! They’re all lies anyway!
Plex uses a tool called ComSkip to facilitate the removal of commercials. This tool is directly tunable by you. There are lots of things that can cause it to mess up and not cut the commercials properly, and you will likely never have a “1 solution fits all” with comskip.
Read this article for insight into comskip and how/what you should do if you want to custom tune it.
But as I said, it will never be 100% reliable, and if you tune it too far in one direction you will end up losing bits of your show, and too far in the other, and you end up with more commercials, so be very careful about editing it.
I am wondering how long ComSkip takes to remove the commercials from a 1 or 2 hour recording (?), because sometimes I access the recordings right after the end of the show and sometimes they sit there for hours. After hearing that the commercials are removed after or at the end of the recording, I am wondering if all I need to do is schedule playing them back after waiting longer than right after they finish recording. When I had cable, I never watched anything live. I waited to watch programs until after they were over, so I could FF through the commercials, but having them removed is much more preferable.
That you for your kind attention to this matter.
So, the amount of time it takes depends entirely on how you have it tuned, and how efficient your computer is at completing that process, there’s no defined time… For me it takes about 3-5 minutes, for you it may take longer. I haven’t paid much attention to it, but I think, if you have commercial removal enabled, the show doesn’t even get added to your library until after it’s already done recording… so if it’s there and available for you to watch, I believe it has finished this process… I generally don’t watch my recordings until several hours later though so I don’t really pay that close of attention to it…
