Numerous issues with Plex on Synology NAS

ATM, I have 2 major problems with PLEX on my NAS.

First - it constantly TOTALLY breaks once in a 2 weeks or months, due to some backend, low-level conflict of unknown sort for me.
Preblem itself looks like this -> after fabulous and perfect working for weeks, plex server INSTANTLY stops, breaks or whatever it does, no dlna/upnp/ftp client can’t see it, can’t discover, can’t connect. When I log in to plex app through Synology DSM, it says that I can’t access #MYNAME#-server - secure connection problem, BUT it does nothing if I use unsecure, it won’t start again.
Reinstalling doesn’t help - it just won’t go if I try to install it through package center; if I manually try to install plex, it gives me “Port undefined” error.
And no, rebooting NAS is not the solution, because server unit that needs rebooting every week is BULL****.
Non-responding plex, as I see, is some sort of port issue - but with whom? Which application blocks Plex server?

Another problem conerns Samsung Tizen dlna client - fo what-the-hell unknown reason plex just breaks and hammers my Samsung TV when I’m trying to browse and playback my movie library on TV. Folders and movie icons loading, sliding, scrolling is stuttery and slow, 2/3 of movies won’t even start to playback due to unsupported format - which is NONSENCE, cause just aside, next door, DS Video/Synology Videostation folder - which is browsed by any DLNA client as easy as plex, doesn’t have any of those problems at all! Easy scroll, no stuttering menu, all movies open and playback at once.

So, anyone who shares my mad feelings about all this, Please, any ideas?

I’m sorry, where have you requested help and not received it?

May I have your log files? If you cannot download from Plex / web then a ZIP file of the Logs directory from within the Plex share is just as good.

I see 55 files marked as log - which one will do? Cause they Do differ by creation date, but problem I’ve described has been present for all that period.

P.S. And yeah, I’ve also tried reinstalling Plex, so don’t know, are logs are still relevant?

Go to Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs
It will present you with a ZIP file

This is the file I need.

The best way to provide the information I need for a problem:

  1. Verify DEBUG logging is enabled (Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced)
  2. Verify VERBOSE logging is disabled
  3. Recreate the problem (30 seconds worth is enough)
  4. Stop Playback (if a playback problem)
  5. Wait 30 seconds for logs to quiesce
  6. Download the logs ZIP
  7. Attach the ZIP here.

any solution to the problem ? i have the same issues with synology as a server and nvidia shield as a client

As can be seen above,

I have requested log files but none have been made available.

Until such time as I have log files to examine, there is nothing actionable here.

I simply have Plex server running fine on my NAS since that last time it broke, so no useful logs I can provide here.
I just keep ver. 1.18.2.2058.
For that TV overloads when browsing NAS shared library folders through DLNA, unsupported video formats, I use Plex App for this case, without any issue.

Please allow me to be clear.

I requested logs. No logs were provided. There is nothing which can be done until such time as the requested logs, capturing the issue, are provided.

Yeah, whatever…

Without any input to help remedy the problem, there is one known solution:

  1. Open the Plex share
  2. Delete the Library folder and all below it
  3. Restart Plex
  4. Setup the server again.

I have Verizon Fios Home Router (G3100), and I just got a Synology DS218+. No matter what I’ve tried, I can’t get the Plex server to connect ‘directly’ from the internet. All my streaming happens at 720p for this reason. When I do get it to connect securely, it quickly reverts to the unsecured/indirect connection.

Is there something I’m supposed to be setting on either side to fix this, or is this just what I have to live with? I see a lot of similar complaints from NAS users.

There is a theme developing here…

It appears FIOS is the common element.

Is there anyone who is NOT using FIOS with the problem described here?

I really do need to see the following sequence:

  1. DEBUG logging enabled , VERBOSE disabled (Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced)
  2. Enable Remote Access
  3. Let it fail.
  4. Wait 60 seconds
  5. Shutdown Plex
  6. Wait 60 seconds (or longer)
  7. Start Plex
  8. Wait 2 full minutes
  9. Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs.
  10. Attach the ZIP

I guess you can merge these two into one

Here ya go. Good luckArchive.zip|attachment (5.6 MB)
