Plex randomly stops on Synology dsm7

Server Version#:1.29.1.6276
Player Version#:

Hi

Been a long time user of plex on multiple devices. Since two days, for some reason, Plex randomly stops on Synology.
Have to restart pms manually to have it start working again. Really annoying.
Is is the latest server version?

Server log files needed.

If Plex is running, go to Settings → Troubleshooting. Download the logs and attach the entire zip file to the thread.

If Plex is not running, using Synology File Station, navigate to the Plex Data Folder. Right click on the Logs directory, choose compress to logs.zip. Attach the zip file to the thread.

See Synology FAQ 1: Gaining access to the Plex logs or when PMS isn’t running / won’t start

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply.
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-10-19_21-30-26.zip (2.4 MB)

Attached the file. Had to manually do a restart twice today for pms where all other things on Synology were untouched🤔

Any assistance is highly appreciated

@mjduin

You have DNS lookup failing (intermittently??)

@ChuckPa hmmm… Did not change my router, service provider or any settings for my local network🤔

I’ll check whether a total reset of my router and Nas does the trick. I’ll do this in a couple of hours. But still strange that this now pops up as it has been running smoothly for 18 months or so

Not sure if by “total reset” you mean “factory reset.” If so, I would wait before pulling that trigger.

If you have not already done so, try configuring the Synology to use a public DNS server such as 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare), 8.8.8.8 (Google), or 9.9.9.9 (Quad9).

Next, power everything off, then restore power to the router first, working your way out to the NAS. Wait for the each device to fully boot and come online before proceeding to the next device.

I TOTALLY agree with @FordGuy61

DO NOT hard reset the NAS. You’ll lose all your data too.

ISP DNS can be flaky. Stinks, but that’s how it is sometimes.
Bigger DNS servers, such as those he suggests, have more redundancy and reliability

@FordGuy61 @ChuckPa
Thanks guys. Have updated DNS settings and restarted all network equipment.
Hope this does the trick

@FordGuy61 @ChuckPa Looks like the DNS tweak did the trick - no more sudden stops of the PMS. Thanks for helping out!
