My NVIDIA shield is crashing while using Plex as well, but it is only for one particular movie. Have you noticed a pattern with certain files? Or is it everything for you?
Remove the Plex Media Server that is default installed and install Plex from the playstore. I went through the same issue and returned a Shield Pro the first time I experienced this. The version that is pre-installed is really old and crappy.
I recently noticed this issue this week on my Shield TV PRO. I can watch about 20 minutes of an episode/movie before it drops and looks like it is buffering.
If I exit out of the show, it no longer plays the theme music and will not load any new content (like browsing libraries)
I have done the following without any luck on improvements:
Cleared PLEX cache
Cleared PLEX App data
Rebooted Shield
Unplugged Shield for 5 minutes
Tested different users
Tested different content (TV, Movies, 1080p, 4k, etc)
Tested other network reliant apps on shield, no issues.
Stream same content on phone with no issues.
I am hoping there is an update to either the Plex android app or Plex Synology Server package that resolves this. I’ve been a Plex Pass member for around 10 years and have been using Plex longer.
I’d rather not have to set up a Jellyfin server just to be able to use my Shield TV Pro to watch my personal library
same issues kinda, i gave up app was unstable couldnt play full movie. switch to jelly its sooo much faster and better only took me like 1hr to setup wasnt even that bad.
I’ve also had this issue for a while. I factory reset a few times to no avail. I connnected adb remotely and removed plex and plex server. I then reinstalled plex and it seems to be working great now.
Add me to the list of users that is having issues with the Android app. I have been a Plex Pass member for a decade and I have been a staunch supporter of the application. PMS, Players, and Support have all turned in the wrong direction and are actively getting worse.
shame used to love plex, but even the reviews in the google play store paint a bad picture. im plex pass and will never use it again. as i said i moved to jellyfin so much faster.
I have tried everything, I have 2015 pro and as soon as I move inside of Plex player it crash’s I have uninstalled update nothing works. I have cleared Cache and data and disabled Plex server nothing works I have not update shield to the new 9.1 experience firmware either.
Took the sheild apart (only a few screws) the inside was FULL of dust, fan restricted. So when i was watching for a long period would over heat/crash and reboot. since cleaning it no issue.
however ive moved over to jellyfin which is way faster so doubt will go back
I know that’s not my issue mine was in the box for many many years never opened! I had a very hard time updating it to version 8.2.3 because when I first plugged it in a few months ago nvidia’s servers wouldn’t recognize the device to upgrade the software. So I had to manually do everything going through each version of software until I finally found the one that would flash. Everything else is works fine on my shield TubiTV YouTube TV and all the other free ones. Plex is the only issue. Just wish Nvidia wouldn’t have installed Plex as part of the operating system otherwise I would uninstall it immediately! When it works and that’s a few times I really like Plex. I love the transition between commercials and then back to the show we’re watching. As I say one it works it works nicely but most the time it crashes out of maybe 15 tries I get it to work one time. And what really is upsetting nobody wants to help and figure out what the problem is with it. We know it affects a lot of people. And video customer service or tech support is terrible even when I was trying to get my brand new Nvidia Shield 2015 model to work they were of no assistance on the phone. Based out of India it would seem. I had to do everything on my own and figure out everything. Just wish I could figure this one out.
