does it let you rollback by simply installing an older version over the top of the existing version though?
last time i tried that it didn’t install the older version as it knew the current installed version was newer
i’ve got 8.30.2.31202 saved locally if i need to re-install that version, although i haven’t come across the TrueHD issue on anything i’ve played as of yet.
Hi Thanks to the above for the instructions, did it a slightly different way with a different commander downloaded from the google store on the shield and installed the older version from a stick.Works just like before now after wasting the last few days trying to figure out what had happened. Cheers guys
I’ve been dealing with this issue for about a month now after Plex being the poster child for stability over the last year. I was completely fed up with it and was about to remove it and the ShieldTV and buy a DuneHD Vision Max just to be rid of this crap. Like the above user, I have spent loads (far too much) of money on my HT gear (~$100k). And to be forced to play WW 1984 and Thor (first movie) via streaming apps because Plex wouldn’t play them was beyond frustrating. This thread gives me a little hope at least, since I’ve run the gamut on trouble-shooting my TrueNAS machine, entire fiber optic LAN (switches, transceivers, modules, PSUs) and Plex server. I rarely frequent these forums and that’s on me… But another forum I do frequent pointed here (thank God). Could some amazing person test the two above 4k mkv rips and see if you can play them through with your ‘side-loaded’ version? They always start off great but steadily get worse to the point of freezing completely. The scene in Thor would be at his ascension right about where Loki lets in a FG to try and steal the casket. If you get past that, it should be good. I restarted it 3 times last night and each time it was right about that spot in the movie. WW '84 was during her race when she was a child (right about when she lost it, may have been sooner because I kept restarting everything).
For reference, my (pertinent) A/V gear is:
'19 ShieldTV Pro (w/ certified HDMI 2.0)
LG C9 OLED
Lyngdorf MP-60 2.1 (eARC w/ certified HDMI 2.1)
I do not do beta, so the only versions (ShieldTV Experience and Plex) would be what is automatically installed via Google Play. I would side-load as much as I despise it to get rid of this issue since my daughter and I are going to watch the rest of the Marvel movies in order. Thanks a million for any help.
The dev made commits post v8.30.2 in an attempt to resolve a regression with 96/192kHz Dolby TrueHD titles. This caused more regressions starting with both beta and public channel builds v8.31.0 and later. The dev has reverted the commits for a beta channel v9.0.x release which should show up soon.
You will need to remove the current version and sideload public channel v8.30.2 if you do not wish to use beta channel app. Turn off auto-update in the App store until the dust settles. The dev is working diligently with the other parties to solve this.
Just checked and there was a new beta update for my Shield, v9.0.0.31619. Is this a new beta with the rolled back fixes?
EDIT: Hopefully not as I downloaded it and had issues still right away with TrueHD audio, with the 5.1 stream working fine. Guess I’ll try the side load app.
I haven’t updated to the latest beta yet, but I can tell you that the previous three do not have the issue with the video and audio going out of sync. They did introduce another issue, though, most likely related*, where many files with TrueHD/Atmos simply won’t start at all. You get a black background with an endless spinner.
*but also possibly caused by the inclusion of the latest ExoPlayer.
My Shield updated to v9.0.0.31619 last night, but it didn’t fix the issue of files using TrueHD/Atmos tracks getting the endless spinner and not starting. No issues with other audio tracks.
Over the last week or two, I’ve had big issues with audio out of sync. Tried both the latest none beta, the 9.0 beta from 24th and also 8.30.2.31202. Didn’t help anything. I then kept 8.30.2.31202 and disabled ‘switch framerate’ in Plex, and this solved my out of sync audio issues. So I’m forcing my TV to stay in 24hz, and I should be fine. Annoying though.
What would…
“Player: remove TrueHD timestamp precision changes.”
… that infer exactly for us non techies?
Obviously bearing in mind that all the Atmos/LipSync issues only started after a release note mentioned improvements to True-HD.
We updated the TrueHD filter to increase the precision (as the MKV container has them in milliseconds, which isnt quite enough for high sample rate TrueHD). However that change seems to of caused a regression in behavior for other TrueHD videos, as such we’ve gone back to using the unmodified timestamps - which should resolve the issues reported here.
If possible though, a sample video that would get stuck loading in the previous release would be great to have if anyone can provide one, as well as information on your setup (TV + AVR models). This would allow us to figure out why it gets stuck for some users when we switch to high precision timestamps.
Air Force One 68 Mps 4k hdr10 (HEVC main 10) True HD7.1 stuck in load menu.
Enrique Iglesias Demo from the Atmos demo disk. Truehd 7.1 video would freeze for a half second multiple times then the voice would be off the video.
Denon 3700 x Epson 3800 and NVIDA Shield going back to 8.30.2.31202 worked for me. I will also say with Air force 1 it was on all devices not just shield. Android phone, Windows 10 Chrome, and Roku premier
Unfortunately, same here. Still not able to play TrueHD track but 5.1 works fine. Tried 13 Hours, Venom and 1917, all ripped from UHD discs with MakeMKV. All had the same issue. Equipment is a 2017 Shield to an Anthem AVM 70 to a Sony 385ES projector. Version is Plex for Android 9.0.0.31650-beta.
So I went ahead and installed 8.30.1.31022 instead and retested all three movies. All played the short clips I tested, with their TrueHD tracks, without an issue. And I installed it via the USB stick method. Thanks guys for pointing this solution out!
I am very grateful the Plex team is working on this issue, but it’s not there yet.
I’ll chime in and say I get no TRUEHD audio for anything without an Atmos flag. TRUEHD with Atmos plays fine.
Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 hooked to Onkyo TX-SR494 via HDMI. The affected videos play fine visually just no audio at all. XML attached for one working file and one non-working.
Edit to include server/client versions
Server:. 1.25.9.5673
Client:. Android tv 9.0.0.31650-beta
So, I’m on 9.0.0.31650 as of tonight, and I hate to say it, but there is no difference in playback between this latest beta and the previous ones, despite
