@mhiggins
I see the same issues at the exact same point in The Martian.
However with that particular movie the same thing also happens in Emby.
In our case it may be we are using the same release and it’s possibly just a bad rip.
Just tried 9.1.0.31720 on Nvidia Shield PRO
Seems to resolved TrueHD and/or Atmos stuttering/hanging
Strangely UHD Days of Thunder (ripped with MakeMKV 1.16.7) does not start playback if TrueHD is selected (starts fine with MPC-HC and JRiver MC) … if start with AC3 track, movie start fine.
When I say Days of Thunder does not start … Shield goes to blank screen - TV info says Dolby Vision but no info on audio … Plex menu works … just timer stuck at 0:00 (all direct play, no wheel spinning) … if skip forward few seconds (or start movie somewhere in the middle), then playback is fine with TV indicating TrueHD
Tried couple of TrueHD movies (Clear and Present Danger , Patriot Games, Hunt for Red October) … all seems fine to play from start (those were also ripped with MakeMKV 1.16.7)
No idea what’s happening with Days of Thunder
EDIT: was going to provide beginning of Days of Thunder … but after cutting 10 seconds of the beginning (MKVToolnix 66), cannot reproduce the problem … strange
even stranger … remux whole Days of Thunder with MKVToolnix 66 … problem as described above still exist (aka movie stuck at 0:00)
EDIT2: Plex Media Player on PC has not problem start playing Days of Thunder from beginning with TrueHD (direct play)
EDIT: client 9.1.0.31720 on NVidia Shield PRO
Can confirm audio getting out of sync for Martian extended cut at 58:03.
Also, same problem exist for Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan extended cut at 29:38 … again only with TrueHD track … AC3 tracks play seamlessly
this new beta build that was releases giving me issues with TrueHD playback.
tried to watch Raiders of the Lost Ark yesterday, stuck on spinner when trying to use TrueHD, changing to 5.1 did allow it to play but then kept get stuck on the spinner every 20 minutes or so which essentially locked up the whole device (had to physically cut the power)
tested again with Spider-man no way home and that played flawlessly with TrueHD (but it always did even on the public release version).
along with the other bugs in this beta release it actually makes it more unusable that the public version for my use case.
Hi, nothing constructive to add apart from a “me too” to boost the thread. Playing a movie with a TrueHD track from my 2019 Shield tube through a Samsung HW-N950 produces no audio and nothing on the AV display. Latest public builds of server (Synology package) and player. Same for the Shield firmware.
Also had sync issues playing the Blackhawk Down director’s cut mkv in the past
Mine isn’t a scene release, I ripped it myself from my UHD disk and tried across pretty much every program available to rip a UHD bluray with the same results (and actually using 2 different copies of the UHD disk produced years apart). This specific point on the timeline is a branch point and can be reproduced with other seamless branching movies as well; this was just my one example. It’s more likely that Emby also needs to implement a fix for this as many other players have had to do. People have been complaining about this for some time it’s nice it might be getting some traction here for a Plex fix but it’s definitely a specific problems to seamless branching TrueHD audio tracks within Plex
I was not able to resume playback of a paused mkv that was playing well prior to pausing
Just a reminder to please post your client version when submitting bug reports.
That play next thing started happening to me again with the latest Play Store version, so I don’t think 9.1 did it. I have 9.0.1.
9.1.0.31720 definitely fixed most of my playback issues with True HD (have only tested a couple movies). But did start some new issues, like not always able to restart a movie from being paused (seems to happen more after screen saver kicks in). And I usually have to hit play, see the spinner, then back out and play again for the movie to actually start. Will continue to play around and report any findings.
9.1.x beta definitely has the plex next bug, along with other UI bugs that were previously fixed a while back and have returned in this build.
i’ve also found that during playback it will randomly just stop playing and display the orange spinner for no apparent reason, press back once on the timelime will get it playing again. i’ve had this happen quite a few times over different content type.
Ironically pressing back (or forward) too much on the timeline causes yet another issue at times. Especially if you scrub through the timeline significantly.
The frame sticks at the point you ff/rewind.
So stuck video, no audio but the timer counts as if the media is playing.
+1 This is still my biggest remaining issue. I can kinda sorta avoid it if I wait just a fraction of a second between clicks of the FF/RW button, but anything more than two or three quick clicks causes Plex to get stuck and I have to back out/resume.
Thanks so much for confirming this.
I was speaking to a friend who seldom visits the forum. He hasn’t watched an Atmos movie for a couple of weeks and was unaware of all the current issues in the last few releases…
He did however tell me last night that he sees this particular issue in the shows he has been watching. (But shrugs it off cos he doesn’t often ff/rewind often.)
Up to his and now your confirmation I had started to think It was something more local to my setup and had planned to reset the Shield.
Back to 8.30.1 for now I think.
Can you confirm if on 8.30.1 you can have two external sub files languages. and only external (no embed) and you can change the sub language? Right now you can have for example ar and en external files and it wont matter what shield selects it will always play the ar because A comes before E
This existed in 8.31 as well. Is this also in 8.30?
something tells me the new demuxer is still too buggy to be in public beta builds.
Unfortunately I have hardly any external subs as I only have need for forced subs and they are embedded.
Therefore It’s highly unlikely I have any files with two external subs.
9.0.2 just hit stable despite not having a 9.0.2 beta.
No release notes either.
That helps keeping track of all the issues nice and simple. ![]()
Who’s brave enough?
