Yes but this issue is not isolated to just Plex. Titles with seamless branching have an issue when remuxing the extended version. This can be replicated in Emby and Kodi with such remuxes. This has to be resolved with the remuxing tools.
I had this issue.
TrueHD films didnt even start playing.
9.1.0.31883-beta Has fixed this issue.
It is also ok with atmos?
Yes can confirm.
The titles I am having trouble with are not extended seamless branching. They playback perfectly on my Apple TV 4K using Infuse 7 accessing my Plex server.
Furthermore, I can playback perfectly with Jellyfin on my nvidia shield. My files are in google drive accessed by rclone. My home server has access to the google drive mounted locally. And runs both Plex media server and Jellyfin server.
So Plex stutters, drops audio, freezes. Jellyfin plays without issue as does Infuse 7 on Apple TV 4K 2021.
I would hesitate to blame this entirely on the remuxing process, itās an issue that persists with nearly every piece of software to rip/remux UHD files and even passing over the truehd track with MLP which should catch the earlier demuxing issues does not fix the problem.
Lots of the remuxing software did have initial issues with these TrueHD tracks but have been updated to fix that but the audio dropout issue still persists on the latest versions
Remuxing with makeMKV, CloneBD, DGDemux, eac3to all exhibit the same dropout in Plex
Additionally multiple clients/players have updated their side of things to fix this issue including Kodi and LAV Filters
So while it certainly just may be a problem that exists across all remuxing software it does at least appear that a client-side/player solution can accommodate the issue
Thanks for the explanation. I wasnāt sure if these two were related or not.
So is there a way to avoid this issue currently through a different remux process?
Remux the theatrical version
Yes Kodi has been developing workarounds. There hasnāt been any workarounds developed for exoplayer by Google. I am not sure either Emby or Plex can or will write code to deal with this issue in exoplayer.
Why is it that Jellyfin works but Plex doesnāt ? Donāt they both use exoplayer?
Is Jellyfin leveraging libVLC or Exoplayer when playing such titles in your scenario?
Not sure, I left that on auto (as recommended).
Iāll try to force exoplayer when Iām home at lunch hour.
I also have a HTPC build that runs my library via Kodi 19.4 w/ JRiver (madvr). Albeit, I lose Dolby Vision playback, but man does that just work. Sorry if not relevant (kodi windows).
I set Jellyfin to use exoplayer. Perfect playback for the first 4 minutes of Frozen. I tried it with libvlc, same, no issues.
I went back to plex. Stuttering within the first disney opening sequence animation, Dolby Atmos popped up 3 times.
Just for fun, Iām going to setup my emby server again and see that fairs.
Sounds like youāre going SHIELD ā TV ā AVR. Could you tell us your setup and also the exact version of your Plex client?
Nvidia shield 9.0.2(33.1.0.319)
Plex Client 9.1.0.38813-beta
For my Nvidia Shield 2019 Tube, Iām running to my LG C1. No AVR for this tv. My AVR is in my home theatre with the Oppo UDP-203.
This is your first issue. The Tube is garbage when it comes to 4K UHD with high bitrates. I just tested Black Hawk Down (Extended Edition) with Emby on the 2019 Shield Pro, the audio desync at 14m35s as it always does due to the seamless branching. Kodi on the 2019 Shield Pro does indeed no longer exhibit this audio desync behavior.
Yet Jellyfin 0.13.3 provides a perfect playback, even Gemini Man @ 59.94 fps?
