Nvidia Shield Dolby TrueHD playback is borked

Thanks @Orange_GT3 … I guess it’s time to get back on the current track then, and indeed I agree about the seamless branching issue in regards to that being outside of this thread and a separate issue in its own right.

@DiRiN … I personally prefer to be as far forward in versioning as I can be when it comes to software, without dipping into beta’s, although I do appreciate that can sometimes come at a price, but each to their own :+1:

I would rather my newer LG OLED handle the upscaling. I’ve had match resolution enabled in the Plex client for years. No issues with 8.29 using that setting. I’m also on the latest Shield Experience with all Hot Fixes.

I was curious, so before moving forwards beyond 8.29.1, I thought I would give The Martian Extended Edition another go, and indeed I can confirm the seamless branching issue is still apparent on 8.29.1.

Plex Members,
I can report that the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-X works as well as HDR10, HDR10Plus and Dolby Vision, but I find myself having to reset the Plex app because it doesn’t pick up the server, but the 9.2 beta does work.

have an LG OLED myself (the CX) the upscaler on the shield is much better than the LGs upscaler in my opinion.

i wasn’t suggesting that the settings was causing the issue though.

In my case, latest stable is completely broken, after 10 minutes of a 4K HDR remux, I’m getting freezes on both video and audio.
It didn’t happen on all the 9.1.0 beta except the last one.
I had to roll back to 8.30.2, so far, no issue whatsoever…

played a 4K HDR remux (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) last night on 9.1.0.32210.
played from start to finish with no issue.

Agree to disagree :innocent:. I find the upscaling to be more natural with fewer artifacts when done by my OLED.

I think, I’m having this with Chromecast with Google TV. Before i’m having no issue to play TrueHD tracks on my system.

Now playback will not begin, just a spinning circle, but I never get an error message. It will just keep spinning for minutes if I let it. If I change audio track from TrueHD to AC3, playback begins immediately.

Is this the same as the Shield TrueHD issue?

Im running now the 9.2.x player and 1.26.0.5715 server. Some TrueHD is working now, but some still wont start with the TrueHD stream.

Does someone have tips for me for what i can check, like settings/media information/logging to determine what goes wrong?

It’s not the same, CCwGTV can’t direct play TrueHD, so your issue is the device is waiting on the transcode to take place. Totally different issue there.

Sorry, but there are you wrong. CCwGTV can play TrueHD direct, since the feb 2021 update. I’ve taken the opportunity to create a photo of a working TrueHD directplay stream. Like i said, some are working, but some don’t work anymore since the 9.x versions.

I am running the latest beta (9.2.0.32419) and truehd playback is broken. My server is transcoding to opus. Shield tv pro 2019 connected directly to denon x3500

Well you got some kind of special experimental Chromecast with Google TV. First I’ve ever heard anybody say that. My device certainly can’t direct play TrueHD.

What’s your server dashboard say? I’ve had clients incorrectly report Direct Play / Direct Stream / Transcode status before.

I see nothing online about CCwGTV supporting TrueHD passthrough.

I’ve seen this happen as a glitch, but not consistently, with the same setup as yours. It is not limited to TrueHD either. When this happens, I stop playback and start it again. It’s a bug, for sure, but not one that is related to anything discussed in this thread (IMO).

RIP. Thanks for the update!
I’m still running great on my rolled back version.

Which rolled back version are you using to play truehd? Lets see if this also works for me.

there should be no need to rollback now, as the current public releases have the fix that this thread was about.

the current public release has many other issues though (it wouldn’t be a plex release with 1 fix and 50 other broken things that weren’t broken previously)

maybe plex should have spent the money they used on the pointless logo re-brand and spent it on employing some quality control staff instead.

Oh really? It’s fixed? You sure? How about the categories in the sidebar that keep resetting and I have to pin them again and again everytime I open Plex?

Every update brakes something. This is just a huge joke. I’m forced to have automatic updates on Android off so I don’t get the broken Plex releases forced on me.

I wonder, do the Plex developers know the concept of beta? Who the hell tests these before they release them?
