that has nothing to do with the issue this thread is about though
beta releases are meant to be beta tested by the users, that’s what a beta is.
however we have 2 issues with public beta testing on here
too many download and use the beta and have zero intention of actually properly testing and reporting issues. they are essentially “FOMO” users and must always have the very most recent version
those that actually do properly test and report issues find that plex, 9 times out of 10, completely ignore the reports and simply carry on “as normal” and push the, usually, broken beta release as the next public release, with the bugs from the beta still in place.
we have no public bug tracker, so we don’t know what has already been reported, and what the status of the issue is
That’s one of the least helpful and selfish messages I’ve read in a while. I doubt they are encouraged to help fix bugs and issues when users act like this. I have also been frustrated at times with bugs or issues but also remember that Plex has saved me countless hours of labour and been an amazing server over the years for myself and those close to me.
Many issues that are reported are difficult to reproduce (that is KEY to fixing any bugs in software development) and/or have to do with a hardware device itself (E.g. Amazon Firestick and its low RAM). In those cases, there is not much plex devs can do, unless you want them to just pull the app from those devices completely. Don’t forget that you can use Plex for free (as many who complain do, like yourself it seems), and you can always switch to another competing app, if you’re not satisfied. As someone who has worked on coding and reproducing bugs in much simpler apps, this is a thankless job and can definitely lead devs to quit.
My advice, find an app and build that does 95% of what you need and stick with it. Practice gratitude. Have a nice day.
I just upgraded to the latest public release (9.3?) on my Nvidia Shield and TrueHD with Atmos still has various stutters and dropouts. I had to roll-back to 8.29.1 where it worked fine.
Does anybody know if there’s some solution to this? Is everybody all good with the latest release? Anybody still have problems?
Working fine for me (v9.2.3.32818). Using Nvidia SHIELD Pro 2019 and TrueHD works with minimal buffering even when switching Chapters, and even on Wifi connection with very large HEVC files. For reference, SHIELD is direct playing (Passthrough: HDMI) and passing TrueHD 7.1 to my Denon AVR-S650H (2019).
Instead of complaining, do something about it. Donate/buy a lifetime license. What the heck do you think that money goes to? If more did this, things would no doubt get fixed faster. But all too often, users are too tight with their funds and expect a finely running app for free. They think they’re entitled to it actually! I wish they didn’t offer Plex for free.
So far my Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019 edition) never had issue playback TrueHD, very smooth and no any stuttering issue included 4K UHD HDR content.
The bad thing is that stupid category content still missing and now I need to reset every time I want to use it, unless you not switching off the device. For safety issue, electrical device should be off when not using especially when you are not at home to prevent being thunder.
Plex Dev - please look more on fixing the bugs instead of keep adding those useless Free Live TV, Free Movies & Shows on Plex, Discover. Those is extremely useless IMHO.
Nice try. So tell me then, what do you suppose supports Plex’s ‘engineers’ then? Free downloads? You really think the ‘support’ (ie Plex Pass) goes toward some added features? Rather than try and explain what marketing or enticing with ‘added’ features means, i’ll just post a SS taken directly from the Plex web page.
the overall income the company generates from in-house ads, user data, advertising content from sources, as well as plex pass. suspect the vast majority of income is from VC funding though.
plex pass isn’t the sole means of paying developers, and it would be insane to suggest that it even contributed to anything more than a meagre percentage of income, afterall if everyone paid the lifetime fee it would not generate a great deal of money, and that is a one-time source of income.
Where are you getting all this information? You have insider financial data for Plex? I didn’t think so. I highly recommend that you keep strong negative opinions to a minimum when you use software for free. Free software of this quality is a privilege, not a right. Practice gratitude. Have a nice day. Let’s leave this thread for discussion of the TrueHD playback, which seems to be largely resolved.
that would only appear if the forum account is linked to plex account.
i chose to have a separate forum account when the plex forum got breached previously.
however, i don’t need to prove to you that i have Plex pass, but that the fact that i have Live TV enabled tells you that i, indeed, do have plex pass.
If you don’t mind, can you let me know what the issues are with the new version? Is it worth upgrading to? Do you happen to know which Plex player version was the one that actually messed it up?
Hello I have a similar problem,
Indeed, I got the lastest version of Plex on my shiled TV pro (2019) and when I play TrueHD atmos audio from HEVC mkv it doesn’t work, my plex is continuously charging with error message.
But If I play DTS-HD MA, DTS, EAC3 or AC3 from the same movie or others it works well!
Can anyone help me ? Similare problem for others on Shield TV Pro?
Hi,
Yes sorry, my message error is “there was a problem playing this item”, only when I play with TRUEHD Atmos.movies I don’t understand because shield tv are able to read TRUEHD and Plex media player as well
