I have an Nvidia Shield Pro set up as a client on my local network to the server via Ethernet. Client is going through Denon AVR via certified HDMI 2.0 cable to speakers and TV. HDMI passthrough is enabled on the Shield client.
Audio frequently “pops” whenever I’m watching movies now. Seemingly regardless of codec, although the majority of content is AC3 surround. There a few DTS surround tracks in there as well. Usually one or two quick pops every few minutes. I’ve swapped out HDMI cables to no avail, leading me to believe it is the client is culprit. I’ve not noticed any pops watching YouTube or Netflix on the client either.
What further information can I provide and/or troubleshooting steps can I take? Any and all help appreciated.
I purchased the shield for its audio capabilities, but if this is the state of things it will be swapped out with a new Apple TV soon.
UPDATE: I finally tried disabling passthrough. The issue is even worse. Audio pops several dozen times during the runtime of a movie now. This happens less with passthrough turned on and refresh rate switching enabled, however it doesn’t eliminate it entirely. It also seems to only be in 24hz content.
Never had this problem with any other clients. Anyone else on shield experiencing this?
Exact same bug for me; same config as ChrisMass, exept I use a Samsung 5.1 sound bar. Pops comes randomly from the subwoofer, and it’s like fireworks…
No problem with Netflix, Amazon, Apple+ (all used from the same Nvidia SHIELD, connected the same way to the AVR). Only happend with PLEX for a month or so…
Downloaded MrMC to see if that would experience the same pops. I’m getting less but they’re still there.
I’m going to swap HDMI cables again and see if maybe I need to stop listening to people saying Monoprice cables are a good option.
Still yet to experience any when using a service like Disney+ though.
Update: HDMI cable no.3 and still getting pops. The shield is going to have to be ditched at this point. Either putting in an old FireTV or using the TV built in app until this is usable.
