Nvidia Shield - microstutter. Missing images?

Server Version#: Latest
Player Version#: Latest

Hello,

I have these small micro stutters when watching movies and TV series on my Nvidia Shield and was wondering if this is a known issue?

It is mosly notised in panning scenes and it appears as if images are lost or missing.

I`ve tried to restart both server, shield and Plex app.

The server is on a Synology NAS.

Hope you can help.

Not a known issue. Make sure match frame rate is on in the shield and plex player. Other than that it’s usually the display motion settings for that input

Since it shows up a lot in panning this really sounds like a frame rate mismatch, yeah. There should be an option in the Plex settings to try changing the display refresh rate to match the content. Smooth panning can be yours!

Thank you both!

Would that be the setting called “Refresh Rate Switching” in the Nvidia Shield client app?

There are two more settings that I do not know what means: “Resolution Switching” and “Refresh Rate Switching Delay”

Or is there a setting in the server I should change?

Yes.

The delay setting can be used in case your display takes a long time to make that change, it pauses playback temporarily.

Resolution Switching is just what it says, it changes the resolution of the display to match the content. With a modern TV it is probably not needed.

Thank you BanzaiInstitute!

Your suggest seem to have fixed the issue. I watched a test for nearly an hour earlier today and I did not see any stutter.

I’ll test further to be sure. I might need to set the delay setting as it seems like the first few seconds of a video do not play. with Refresh Rate Switching on

Glad it is working for you.

I think it’s pretty common to need a bit of delay. My projector needs over 5 seconds!

You’re welcome
