I have an NVIDIA Shield TV Pro with Plex server running on a Linux PC on my network. On the server I turned on the movie trailers from current library option and set up a pre-roll video. On the Shield settings I enabled 1 movie trailer.
When I select a movie the pre-roll video does not play but the movie trailer does. However, after the movie trailer finishes, the movie starts playing, but it starts playing the movie starting at the duration of the trailer.
So for instance, if the trailer is 2 mins long the movie will start playing at the 2 min mark.
First, is there something I have set up wrong on the pre-roll video?
Second, is there a setting I have incorrectly on the trailers or is this a bug in the app?
First, the pre-roll plays after the trailer. What the trailer starts, bring up the playback controls by pressing a button the remote. Scroll down. You should see the play-queue which lists what will play next. Is your pre-roll listed in there?
Second, this was a problem we had before and was fixed. I’ve seen 1 report of this recently but I’m not able to recreate. Can you verify the version of the app you have installed?
I fixed the issue with the pre-roll. That was a mistake on my part that I was able to fix.
The version I’m currently running is 1.13.5.5332. When I check for updates it reports that I have the latest. I noticed it’s only an issue on the Shield that I use, not the web client. I have not tried with any other clients however.
I just logged in this morning and was notified that an update is available to the server. I will update and let you know if there is still an issue this evening.
My apologies for the late reply on this. I was traveling all week and have just had a chance to reply. I have version 7.6.2.7169 of the Plex app installed on the NVIDIA Shield TV and version 1.13.8.5395 of the Plex Media Server installed on a fully up to date Linux Ubuntu 16.04 installation. Let me know if I can be of any help in debugging the issue.
Today I tested by turning off the option to play previews before the film and it still played the pre-roll and cut into the movie by the length of the pre-roll.
Is there any way to mark this as an issue that needs to be taken care of? Any way to file a bug report? It would be great if we could find a solution to the issue.
I’m working on this issue. So far I’m still unable to reproduce. Can you update the app to the latest, 7.6, recreate the problem and get me a log from the app and from PMS?
I’ll do it as soon as I get home from work this evening. Can you tell me how to get the log from the app? Is it just an option in the app or is it on the Android TV side of things?
In the app on the Shield, go to settings and find the option for “Network logging” or is it “debug logging”, I forget. Either way, turn it on. You will be shown a URL. Enter that into a web browser from a computer on the same network. It will bring up the log in text. Save it as a file and provide me that file.
So interesting thing happened. I uninstalled the latest update, then installed it again, re-linked my account to the app and now the issue seems to be gone. I’ll keep testing but it seems like that fixed it for now. If I see the issue again I’ll take the logs and put them here right away.
I have had this issue also. I have the latest Plex Media Server (1.14.1.5488 on Shield) and Plex Player on the same Shield (7.9.0.8439 I believe) and it plays the trailers fine but then starts the movie a few minutes in around 2:36 or so, probably about the length of a trailer so it’s like it’s started the movie playing whilst showing me a trailer.
Happened several times now. Not sure if it is triggered by skipping trailers or something as I often skip trailers I have seen. Also if it helps I have 3 trailers set to play.
Hope someone can figure it out as it’s a shame if I have to turn them off again.
This only seems to happen on movies that have been watched (partially) before. It appears to continue the film from the last position instead of the beginning. Even when you have told Plex to start again from the beginning.
It also isn’t the Plex client on the Shield doing it as I am connected to my server via the Windows 10 app and it is still having the same issue.
