Nvidia Shield Plex Server and HDHomerun

Sometime this month I’m going to buy an Nvidia Shield to replace the aging hardware I’m running my Plex server on. But I was also toying with buying a HDHomerun to replace DirectTV Now. Does the HDHomerun and the LiveTV features work with the NVidia shield?

I use an HD Homerun (dual tuner) with my NVIDIA Shield TV and it works great. I have a LaCie external drive connected to the the NVIDIA Shield TV for storage and it doesn’t seem to have any issue with recording.

I can’t seem to get anything to transcode though if I utilize hardware acceleration. If that’s not a concern for you, then watching live TV and recorded content works great.

I have the Shield TV Pro with HDHomerun Prime using a Synology DS418. It works great! Keep in mind you’ll need active PlexPass to get LiveTV Guide Data. I suggest giving the PlexPass a trial run, if you like it upgrade it to a Lifetime account.

Works great, but I don’t recommend transcoding, and if you do “real-time” TV it buffers alot, so I have a 10 second delay on the stream. Fixes most buffering issues
