Thanks for the feedback - I have been trying to recreate this but not been able to reproduce it
Does it happen only if the application data is moved to user accessible internal storage or external storage or even when not moved ?

Dear @sa2000, Thank you for trying to dig into this matter.
In december on my shield where PMS is installed (with the november update) I have tried with the two setups (application data on user accessible internal storage and application data not moved) and the problem was there, each time I restarted, my library and all the setups was gone and I had to start again from scrap.
The only stable solution I was able to obtain to fix this problem was the following : I wiped cache and data from plex and pms, restarted the shield, then in Google play I uninstalled the update for PMS, I blocked the auto update feature from play store and restarted the shield. Then I performed a new pms install of my database without updating plex.
It seems stable and my setups doesn’t vanish after a restart but I have problem with codec with this old version which is another problem.
Currently I updated to the last version of PMS on my shield (december update) to fix the codec problem of this old version but I didn’t restarted my shield yet. Indeed I don’t know if the problem of library dissapearing upon restarting was fixed on the december update of PMS and I don’t want to loose everything
See this thread for more of the same issue. I found the fix to be clearing the app cache for PMS after moving the storage to user accessible.
Steps to reproduce. Factory reset the shield, then update PMS. Setup PMS and move data to user accessible internal storage. Reboot the shield and now PMS has lost all settings and needs to be setup again. See my post linked above for steps to work around the issue. After that it continues to work even after rebooting the shield and on the latest version of PMS.
It happens when move to external storage and when run for first time from external storage. So both cases.
I should also mention that there is no way to backup PMS config from internal storage, so testing this every time means losing months of tweaking and DB building for us. It’s a bummer.
Is hard to believe that we’re in 2019 and there’s still no way to backup Plex config from the GUI…
Thanks for your support.
Hey guys I’ve been having the problem and I think I found a solution as long as you don’t change the plex server storage to external and you leave as you can use adopted storage if you dont have the pro but once you do that Live TV and my plex server does not erase or go offline but it’s actually working great right now in 7 days straight I’ve restarted it multiple times always comes back plus my live TVDVR is saved to my external without any problems
Correction I changed the plex server storage Internal but it was the user accessible internal storage that will be the deal breaker. I set up my libraries to be coming from my external hard drive attached to my shield if you do this you can save all your DVR recordings to the external instead of using your internal one used for pms. I see the problem was setting an external hdd as the server pms storage location that kept sending my old servers offline.
I have managed to recreate the problem by going through factory reset, update PMS and setup, move to user accessible internal storage, working ok after this and on reboot it did not find the server and launched the setup screen.
Not sure why at this stage that it only arose after going through factory reset
This is being referred to the development team
WOW, thank you, thank you soooo much! I’ve been waiting for this to be fixed for so long, finally. Please, keep us on the loop for the fix. Cheers!
In the meantime, and after much trial and error, I have decided to use the default Plex Player and PMS that come with the Shield out of the box.
I have now been running Plex for over a week and it has been absolutely flawless!
The only downside to this is the older interface and the fact that I have lost the ability to share Shield content to my PC (through Samba file sharing).
I’ve been having this issue since I installed Plex and started to use it as a server. Every 2-3 months I try accessing the server remotely and find that it is offline. The first couple times I thought it was something I had done. I have a 4TB WD external as adopted storage. My media is mostly on this external drive, or on a separate drive which is connected to a router.
Each time this server fails, I have to go in and “Clear Data” for both the Plex app and PMS app so I may go through the setup process again.
For a little while I did remove the updates and stick to the “factory” install, it seemed to work … until 3-4 months in when it didn’t. I hope you are able to track down the source and patch it!
I will try to gather and submit my logs, but I do not know if they would persist after having data/cache cleared for the app?
Hi, I have the same problem here : Today I lost my server Plex: I have a server “localhost” but I lost my server “Perceval” with all my media. I spent several hours building my Plex library on a USB 3 SSD disk and lost everything.
This is the fix:
Move storage location in plex
stop server
go into android settings go to app details for plex media server and clear cache
go back to plex and start server, move storage location again if needed
reboot server and confirm storage location is still set correctly.
@spamies can you please be more specific? When you say “move storage location in plex” - do you mean on the web interface or on the Nvidia Shield…and move it to where?
From within the plex client app on the shield.

@spamies and the storage location should be set to which option?
I’m sorry to say that it does not work man. Someone else already suggested the same fix, tried it before, it still swiped out all my data.
And here’s a golden proof that apparently it has nothing to do with the cache. Even when you set external storage from the beginning, after a factory reset, ergo still empty cache, you build the db and then reboot…puff, everything is gone…again.
You know, I really wanted this fix to work back in the day, maybe it does for some people, sadly not for everyone.
@spamies - sorry to say this doesn’t work for me either. Tried it a few times to internal user, and external usb - it doesn’t keep. I have no server at the moment. 7.2.2(30.7.130.7). If the 2.2 beta you mentioned earlier is newer than this version, I can give it a try…
@sa2000 if you guys come up with a test version to address this, I’m happy to try it out.
Thanks.
I think I have the same problem. If I restart my shield, Plex acts like it’s the first time I’ve ever opened the app… It doesn’t remember that it was the Plex media server-- no libraries, nothing!
@sa2000 it’s been over 2 weeks - do we have any progress update?Just something so we know it’s still being looked at would be great.
Thanks!
