My understanding is that the Nvidia Shield PMS, will have access to the devices hardware for transcoding purposes, so instead of the general purpose CPU, the actually hardware that does the heavy lifting for media playback.
I was under the impression, which may well be out of date, that FFMPEG didn’t support hardware transcoding.
If it doesn’t, how is it being achieved by Plex? Have Nvidia paid for Plex to support their hardware in this fashion? OR has the work entailed doing the Shield Plex client being leveraged to produce a PMS? Does this mean that Plex Server for other Android devices is possible?
A lot of questions I appreciate.
