Server Version#: 1.21.1.3876
Player Version#: 8.18.2.25850
Hi,
Suddenly having issues getting Plex to play on my nVidia Shield Pro. Getting the “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again”.
This has really got the wife on my back as she now can’t watch her shows.
I have two Plex servers. The main one in running from my QNAP TS-653B. This was running fine until about a week ago. Then I started getting the above error.
QNAP:
OS version is 4.5.3.1652 Build 20210428
Plex server version is 1.21.1.3876
When that happened I moved to my other Plex server which is running running on an Intel NUC. It was fine until today, last used it yesterday or the day before. Now I get the same error as when using the QNAP.
It’s running:
Plex server: 1.21.1.3795
OS Windows 10 Pro
Version 2004
OS Build 1904.1052
As far as I’m aware the Plex server hasn’t been updated in the last couple of days, unless it auto-updates.
I’ve also tried the Plex player on the TV (Samsung) and get the same error.
Plex works OK through browsers n my PC’s and Mac and iOS devices.
Attached Plex server log with user name, mail address and ‘Now watching’ lines removed for privacy.
Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Plex Media Server.zip (51.3 KB)
The latest available stable server version is 1.23.2.4656.
Also, you might want to see if secure connections are required on your server and/or client. Try allowing insecure connections to see if that allows playback. That seems to be a recent issue with Android clients.
Thanks, appreciate the server is out-of-date, but can’t see why it would suddenly stop working. I’ve disabled HTTPS but nothing could connect, so I’ve turned it back on.
OK, so I’ve updated the QNAP package to 1.23.2.4656, restarted Plex and it hangs. Dashboard shows it doing a database backup, left it over night, so a good 12-15 hours and it was still doing it this morning, so restarted it, but goes back to doing a database backup. So can’t test if the upgrade fixes my initial problem.
Have the same issue on my Nvidia Shield Pro (2017) but from Synology Nas.
Does not play on my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra anymore either, everything works on my W10 machines and Xbox.
First I thought it was related to DSM7 update on the NAS but I see many people having issues specifically on Android devices and phones.
Yeah, definitely seems something is going on with the Android part. I’ve now got it working with my Win10 Plex server by updating it to the latest version. The QNAP, which is my primary Plex server, is still hanging on the Backup Database job.
I am having issues with remote streams on my Nvidia Sheild Pro (2019) and Google Chromecast with TVs. It has to be the app. Everything is sold otherwise.
Agree with it being the app. Seems it’s not backwards compatible with the versions of the server I was running. Now works under the latest Windows version, but still having major issues with the QNAP. I updated the QNAP to the latest version, all seemed to go well, said Plex server was running, but nothing could connect. Stopped Plex, dashboard still said a database backup was in progress. Started Plex, launched it from the QNAP, got a warning about it not using a secure connection and browser wouldn’t connect. Downloaded the Windows client, that wouldn’t connect either. Will completely uninstall it and re-install and see what happens. Really don’t want to go digging around the QNAP file system to fix something that shouldn’t be broken.
Same here no remote access or / and nothing playing. Tried everything to fix it to no avail. Guessing it’s some sort of update or problem with shield pro
I ran into the "An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again” issue on my Shield TV Pro. This only happened on my Shield TV Plex player. My desktop was able to play the same file from the Plex Media Server on the Shield TV Pro.
I was able to fix it by updating the Plex Media Server app on the Shield TV Pro through the Play Store. I didn’t see any indication it was out of date on the web control panel or anywhere. I went into the Play Store to uninstall it and reinstall it when I noticed the “update” button. After updating playback worked with the Plex player on Shield TV.
